You probably will not start the car as the immobiliser needs the key battery to transmit the code to allow the immobiliser to work correctly. Fit a new battery in the key fob and have it reprogrammed to the engine CPU.

I am assuming that the engine won't even turn over. could be lots of different things. The simplist is to make sure the car in in PARK , won't start if not. Other things could be , Security imobilizer if you have one. Does your key have a electronic chip in it ? Try your other set of keys if you have one. Check if battery connections are clean and tight.

I have a e320 2003 model, the same has happened to me. I wondered if it could be the fuse but couldn't find a fuse that managed the boot.....
This problem is identical to the other post "boot wont open electronicaly by the boot release latch above the number plate, the boot release button inside the car or the key fob! I have to use the manual key to mechanically open it now."
