I have a Montana and the headlight on these vans are always fogging up inside and collect water from condensation. Most of us Montana owner's drill two 3/8 hole on the side of the headlight to allow air to circulate. That fixed the problem and no more fog or water. When you drill the hole find a spot like close to the bottom corner and look to see if the spot is clean, which would indicate that dirt and water from the rain don't collect there.
Good luck and hope this helps.

IF MOISTURE IS PRESENT INSIDE THE LENS, THEN IT MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE, CLEANED AND DRIED. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, RESEALED WITH CLEAR RTV SILICONE TO PREVENT FUTURE FOGGING. IT CAN BE DONE BUT IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME AND PATIENCE. I HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING. BEST OF LUCK.

My head lights are very fogged i bought the restoration kit but cant figure out how to take off the cover to apply the soulution

Those restoration kits are only for the outside of the lenses. They oxidize and you use that kit to remove oxidation. If the haze is on the inside you need to replace the entire housing. They're sealed from the factory. Some people have tried to disassemble and clean insides but the success rate is very low.

How do I remove the headlight cover to clean the inside part of the headlight cover. It appears to be fogging making the lights seem dim.

you are talking aftermarket headligth covers? , the head lite itself cant not be taken appart, your best bet is to drill a small hole in the lower part ofthe headlight so moisture can be release, this will help but in the long run you'll need to replace it

Foggy headlight assembley

If the fog is on the outside, it is damage from dirt and rocks from the road. You can try sanding and buffing them (they sell kits for this purpose), but it's not that easy.
If the fog is on the inside, it may be that moisture has gotten into the assembly through a crack or loose seam. Remove the protective backing from the assembly and let the water evaporate. Find the crack or loose seam and seal it with clear caulk of some kind.
The only other choice is to replace the assembly.
Best wishes!

Headlight lens removal on 2002 Mercury Cougar

Several car wax companys make kits to clean the outside of the headlight lenses. Check your local parts stores. It's usally pretty hard to remove the len, they are often glued on.

Fog lamps turn on and off when headlights are on.

I do not understand why the guy with the previous solution was so mean. I think he does not know when headlighs are on means basically lowbean are on because rarely we use highbeans.
Then the foglights come on and off when the headlight are on in lowbean if you are short-understanding.
Honesty I do not think you can open the multiswitch, fix it and seal back it again. You can try and post the results.

1st time install of OEM fog lights into a 1999 Mercury Cougar?

Look under the dash near where the headlamp switch mounts and if yours is equipped you should see I think it is a blue 4 pin connector with the following wire colors OG,OG/WH,OG/GN,BK.
This is for the fog lamp relay. If yours has this connector then you will need to purchase a relay ford part number F6RZ-14N089-AA should list for about $10.

Headlight switch replacement

Here is the recall info.

The vehicles affected by this recall are certain ‘92 & ‘93 model year Ford Thunderbirds and Mercury Cougars. The problem; the headlights turn off, then come back on after driving with the fog lights on. Ford is replacing the headlight switch and if necessary the electrical connector for the headlight switch. Repairs for a safety recall are to be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner, even if you are not the original owner. In addition, if the headlight switch was replaced before the recall, the owner is entitled to a refund for repairs. But the owner should still bring their vehicle in for inspection. Why? The replacement part may not have been of the new design.
