Crankshaft location sensor 1997 vauxhall vectra estate 2.0 diesel

I am having engine management problems due to crankshaft sensor. The motor ticking is lumpy with loss of power and the rev counter stops working. Can you tell me where the location of the crankshaft sensor is so I can fix it Thanks

bit confused...the cranksensor will be on the gearbox housing the camsensor will be near the cams not the gearbox if the camsensor has packed up it wont start but if it packs up while driving the engine will run untill you stop it then it wont start,a cranksensor could cause the engine to stop at anytime if it fails..your problem could be the idle air control valve or a timing related issue..

Engine dies on me then starts up again vaxhall vectra 2.2 dti estate

Not familiar with the vehicle however, if the "d" in "dti" stands for diesel, id check the large fuel filter; usually under the hood (bonnet). Possibly only needs the air bled out -especially if the filter has been changed recently.
