Question about 2001 Toyota Echo

1 Answer

2001 Toyota Echo. The blower motor would only start if I reached into the filter box and spun it with my hand or banged on the bottom of the ECU. Gradually it has degraded where it will only start slowly and will slow down and stop. I pulled the motor and tested it across the battery leads and it ran fine so i replaced the resistor and checked the relay. Still have the same issue. going to check for a loose ground connection. Any thoughts.

Yes could be the blower relay or loose ground in the blower circuit.
Try your local library they may have a manual with the cicuit diagram.

SOURCE: In 2002 Toyota Echo, I need to replace blower

blower switch is your fan knob on dash. resistors are located under pass side dash next to blower motor. on alot of cars the blower will work on high speed and not the lower ones- this is a tell tale way to tell the resistor is no good. if this happens again after replacing resistor- ive seen the blower motor shorting out causing the resistor to go bad- then you would have to replace both.(this usually dosnt happen, most often the resistor alone fixes the problem..

you know the thing has run 400k miles, that is 300k past it designed life. break down and buy a new fan for it, it will set you back about 60 bucks. if you can replace the resistor, you can change the fan. a new set of plugs, plug wires, and a set of tires may be warranted as well.

What would cause electrical components to malfunction in 2001 toyota echo

All of those components are probably on the same circuit. I would guess that there is a short or bad ground connection somewhere. If there is an aftermarket radio, fuzzbuster, or other accesory that was tied in, it could be that's the problem.

What is required for a 2001 toyota echo tune up?

I also have a Echo and would suggest:
Air filter, spark plugs. If it is still sluggish I would then replace the upstream 02 sensor. The fuel filter is apparently lifetime so it should be okay.

Changing rear brake pads.

Loosen up the hand brake, bang on it with a hammer a few times.
If it still doesn't come off, some drum has holes drilled in them, put a bolt through it & start
turning, it should come off slowly.
