I have a 2004 GMC Denali XL and the 3rd brake light has not worked for a while. I ordered a new one and installed it...but it doesn't work either. I checked the main fuse and its OK. I'm suspecting its not the light at all. WHAT ELSE SHOULD I CHECK??? Jeff

did u check that they not burn?if not you should Check the wires going into the steering column if you don't have separate turn signal lights and brake lights because if they use the same bulb then the turn signal may be bad. If I remember correctly that particular car doesn't work this way, but I include it just in case.

This is a well documented problem, replace the turn signal/multifunction switch to correct this issue, this very problem happened on my GMC, it is a 99 as well, replaced the switch as instructed by a chevy forum member and it fixed the problem

make sure your geetin 12v to brake switch if not jumper a wire then try it

Remove bulb, make sure it sits tight in the socket. make sure socket is not burnt up (brown or black in color) Check bulb, if the filament inside is loose or discolored, replace as nesessary. Check brake light switch under driver side dash above brake pedal. make sure it is adjusted correctly.

You'll have to gently apply some prying pressure to the housing as you turn the screws, it sounds like they've stripped the part they go in...
