2000 Nissan Frontier Wont start

100,000 miles. V6 4x4. Ran fine, backing out of driveway, truck stalled. No sputter or rough start, no check engine light. Just died. Will not restart. Tries to crank over (sounds like its starting but not getting any fuel). Replaced Spark plugs and wires (they needed to be done anyways), and replaced air filter. Wont start, same problem. When key is turned to on I CAN hear the fuel pump start and run for 5 seconds as normal. Going to replace fuel filter. Gas tank is full, wondering if I need to empty gas tank in order to replace filter? (haynes manual doesnt address whether the gas should be emptied or not it just says how to depressurize the system) Can I clamp off the rubber end to prevent fuel from spilling? If so what would I clamp it off with?

Hooking up a fuel pressure gauge an seeing if the fuel pump is in fact charging the fuel system . Checking the electrical circuit , fuel pump relay , Instead of guessing as to what the problem is , Test ,Test an test . If you do not know how to do automotive electrical testing there are videos on youtube . Basic Electricity for Service Techs Ohm law Current Flow Opens Shorts When you turn the key on ,not start , the engine computer will energize the fuel pump for a few seconds to prime the system . The fuel pump will not be turned on again if the engine computer does not see a signal from the crankshaft position sensor . Instead of being fixated on the fuel , check for spark . SOURCE: engine bk firering & lose of compression.

Backfiring after warming up can be from many things.

One that comes to mind is carbon deposits on valves, causing them to not close properly. The carbon deposits would also heat up and then ignite air/fuel mixtures before the spark plug can fire.
Or you would have hot exhaust gasses leaking back into the cylinder on intake and that would ignite the fuel.

Tac gauge fluctuating, and engine running rough on acceleration could be a vacuum leak, do you hear a hissing sound when the engine is running? listen closely under the hood. If you have a vacuum leak you would lose power and your RPM would fluctuate oddly. As for the backfire however, there are probably more than just one problem. Its hard to say for sure.

So please, more details, noises you hear, when exactly everything happens etc.
What speed and RPM the engine begins to bog down at, does it stall? What range is ur tac fluctuating at? anything you can think of, throw it on there.

Hope this helps you

SOURCE: car starts, runs rough it will eventually die

why did you replace the filter and pump?
did something get in the fuel?

check the injectors and spark plugs

in my car someone put flour in the fuel tank and the fuel pump, pumped it into the injectors where it cloged them up

so i had to replace injectors pump filter now it is good

CLOGGED FUEL FILTER OR CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS.WILL CAUSE SPUTTERING AND MISFIRE.LEAKING EGR VALVE WILL CAUSE ROUGH IDLING SPUTTERING.

I have a 2000 nissan frontier changed the distributor about a year ago, would not run before that.after i changed it it ran fine, the ob2 codes it threw out cant remember what they were but they led me to...

the next thing i would check is locate all of the ground wires under the hood (grounded to the body) Shiny clean with sand paper and replace. while i am at it I would do the same to grounds to the frame.this may solve your problem . If your grounds are not well connected you will spend many UNESSARY dollars in parts and labour.

2000 4x4 XE 3.3 engine stalls out after reaching operating temperature, timing belt changed last fall and fuel pump changed. Vehicle will restart and may run for a while then problem returns. any ideas?

I have a 2000 nissan frontier crew cab. Great vehicle! about a year ago at around 100,000 miles she started stalling and running really rough. I replaced the distributor cap, all the spark plugs and wires...about $85.00 worth of stuff.
She now runs like a champ again. I would recommend this if you have not done it...I have owned the truck since it had about 55,000 miles on it. I had never done any of these things...the spark plugs literally fell apart when I pulled them. The last plug is a total bear...it is all the way at the back very close to the firewall. "You will SEE a small "notch" in the fire wall...this is where you follow the notch down to the plug with your wrench..you will also need a 45degree elbow on the wrench with a long extender or you'll never get it off and the new one back on...it was a pain!
Hope this helps. Aaron
