How to adjust idle on 1989 toyota celica with 22r engine

The 2.2L of that year would be the 5S-FE engine.
It used an electronic Idle Speed Control Valve.
With all of the intake/vacuum system connected connected, accessories off and the transmission in neutral connect a tachometer. Short terminals TE1 and E1 of the underhood check connector.
Wait for the idle to maintain 1000-1300 RPM for 5 seconds.
If needed adjust the idle adjust screw to an engine speed of 650+-50 RPM.

US Idle is 700+-50 RPM, CA M/T is 800+-50 RPM and CA A/T is 750+-50 RPM.

Remove jumper of E1 and TE1 of the check connector.

After Service when you drive and slow down to stop when refs fall under 1000 rpm the oil warning light come on. When driving light goes off stay off

The chance is good that the oil was replace with thin oil. If the car idles lower than it did before the service it can also be the cause and need to be adjusted to higher rpm. No immediate damage to the engine forseen but need to be rectified asp especially if the car is going to idle frequently or for extended periods.

When coming to a stop, the tach drops below 1000 RPM, then will recover to Idle RPM. However, sometimes it will stall out. I believe the Idle should be adjusted to around 1000 rpm, instead of the current...

indicates that the ratios are not shifting on deceleration
possible dirty oil in transmission , servo/ solenoid problems or TCM problem
run fault codes to check for problems

How to adjust the idle up to 1000 rpm on pt cruiser o4

To change the idle speed on a 2.4 pt cruiser engine, on the front side of the throttle body towards the intake manifold, there is a tiny star screw ( one with the point sticking up in the middle ) that you can turn to raise and it lower the idle speed with.

1995 geo tracker .. when start the truck it idles at 3000 rpm and when shifting between gears it idles high at 3000 rpm .. it randomly started this but i also noticed when it started doing that my lighter...

Hello,
I doubt it has anything to do with your lighter/aux, but change the fuse on it and see if that corrects the problem. Check to see if you can pull the gas pedal back with your hand and see if that lowers the RPM. Old cars can wear the parts that make your pedal rise fully back up.
There is also the intake adjustment screw near where your intake meets the manifold. It's usually a phillip's screw. This will lower or raise your RPM levels on idle. You may have to adjust the screw. Every time you make 1/4 turn adjustments, you need to let the car run for awhile as the process is gradual and NOT immediate. This is the steps I would take because I know my cars, but if you feel uncertain, please take it to a mechanic. Best of Luck!
