1999 GMC Sonoma 2.2L will not start.

On a trip, I pulled up to the gas pump to get fuel and turned off the engine. I turned the key and the lights dimmed and starter did not turn over engine and did not hear the solenoid click. Good battery fully charged. Tried another 6 mos. old battery. Starter turns normally when jumped. Fuseable link (175 Amp.)bypassed and still will not start. Turned on ignition switch and was pushed 20 mph in 1st and 2nd gear and would not start. What is wrong?

What is wrong????????? That would be a guess on anyones part here ! Testing the electrical circuits involved would be the proper way to diagnose this no start problem ! Using a volt meter an wiring diagram to check voltage at different point's in the starter circuit . voltage drop testing ! Plus knowing how the starter system works !
Starter Circuit Operation
Voltage is applied at all times to the ignition switch from the IGN A fuse through CKT 42 (RED). When the ignition switch is turned to the START position, voltage is applied to the CRANK fuse through CKT 5 (YEL). From the CRANK fuse , voltage is either applied to the clutch pedal position switch (M/T) or the park/neutral position switch (A/T) through CKT 806 (PPL). When either the clutch is disengaged (M/T) or the transmission is in park or neutral (A/T), voltage is applied to the coil of the starter relay through CKT 1035 (PPL/WHT). Since the starter relay is permanently grounded at ground G102 through CKT 150 (BLK), the starter relay energizes.
Voltage is applied at all times to the starter relay contacts from IGN A fuse through CKT 42 (RED). When the starter relay energizes, the starter relay contacts close, and voltage is applied to the starter motor solenoid. Since the starter motor solenoid is permanently case grounded, the starter motor solenoid will energize two coils. The pull-in winding coil energizes in order to pull the starter motor solenoid contacts closed. When the contacts close, a plunger on the contacts causes the pull-in winding coil circuit to open. The hold-in winding coil then holds the starter motor solenoid contacts closed. Voltage is then applied to the starter motor from the battery through CKT 1 (RED) and the closed contacts of the starter motor solenoid. Since the starter motor is also permanently case grounded, the starter motor will run until the ignition switch is moved out of the START position. When this happens, a spring in the starter motor solenoid moves the starter motor solenoid contacts and the plunger back to the rest position.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 GMC sonoma 4.3 v6 that will not turn

Try another starter and also try turning the crank bolt with a ratchet and socket to make sure that the crank isn't frozen in place. Do not leave the keys in the car when doing so. You don't want anyone messing around in the truck when trying that!

Tilt the steering wheel down all the way and see if it starts, if it does then there is a main power wire loose in the steering columb. Thats all which comes to my mind at this time.

Replace the starter, the solenoid cant engage the starter because it is locked up, hence the extreme voltage drop with the fan when you try to start it with the fan on.

clutch safety switch bad. may be bad wire/fuse. shld be located on the clutch pedal normally kind of square to oblong box type switch abt inch and half long.you can unplug it, and place a jumper wire in the plug terminals and if it starts then you know its the switch (note: it works the same as a nuetral safety switch on an automatic)

Fuel pressure specs for gmc sonoma 4.3

2001-2004 gmc sonoma 4.3 [X, W Eng.] fuel system specs: 60-66 psi when you turn the ignition key (fuel pump) on without starting the engine. If fuel pressure drops back down quickly after fuel pump stops working (works for only 5 sec.) then you have a bad fuel pump or leaking injector spider.

We have a 1999 GMC Sonoma that won't start. Sounds like the fuel pump isn't functioning---used to hearing a sound right at the time of ignition that is currently not happening. Any ideas?

Check fuse and relay first. If fuse is good, listen to the relay ( in the engine compartment relay box) while someone turns the key on to see if the relay clicks. If it doesn't click, try swapping it with a similar relay, or you can interrogate the relay socket to determine if the VCM is trying to turn the pump on. (Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check to check the socket) If all of this is working right, use a test light at the fuel tank connector (black and grey wires) to verify the voltage is getting to the pump. If voltage is getting to the pump, but the pump isn't running, replace the pump. Let me know if you have any questions.

Engine turns over but does not start. I poured

Either a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Take off the gass cap, have someone listen where the gas cap goes. When you turn the key to the on position you should hear the fuel pump run. If not, find the relay under the hood. Swap the relay with the one next to it (temporarily) Turn the key off then back on. If you hear the fuel pump running then replace the relay. If not the fuel pump is bad. Which is usually the problem.

1997GMC Sonoma 4x4 engine cranks but wont start

sounds like a fuel pump problem. take off gas cap and have someone sit in the truck and turn iginition key to on. (do not turn key as if you were starting but to "on only") you should hear the fuel pump engage. if you dont hear the fuel pump then check the fuel pump relay. it is located behind the glove compartment. hope this helps...
