This just started doing this a few days ago. It is an intermittent problem. The first time, the car was running fine. I parked it and came out to use it again and it wouldn't start...I let it sit overnight and it started right up the next morning. I drove it the next morning to where I needed to be (approx. 4 hours it sat), it started right up for me when I went to leave. Made one stop home (for approx. 1 hour) went to start it up and it cranks, but won't fire. What's the problem?
Just replaced battery approx. 3 months ago.
Hello carol...from the symptons you describe more than likely it's the CPS (crankshaft position sensor.)
The CPS is a common problem on Cateras with these symptoms.
The sensor is a magnetic impulse type that sends a signal to the computer, the computer then triggers the fire signal. When the CPS gets weak, dirty or has low voltage the intermitten no starts occur. It will finally result in a no start at all...Please be aware that a lot of caddy dealers will and have overcharged customers for this common problem by ill advise and replaceing uneeded componets.
Good luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.
If this was a sensor or electronical problem the check engine would be on. If the light is not on, I would suggest replacing fuel filter. and also check for any vacuum hose leaks to start with.
