Backfires exhaust I have a Pajero exceed 1997 with 6G74 petrol engine that runs ok but backfires through exhaust, Help.

THE ONLY WORD THERE GOOD IS BACKFIRES
NO ENGINE OR COUNTRY TOLD
BACK FIRES TO WHERE,
THE AIR CLEANER THROTTLE BODY END
OR TO REAR OF CAR EXHAUST PIPE END.
ENGINES FOR GEN1 CAR
NO MILES OR KM ON CAR ODOMETER TOLD.
IF ENGINE HAS A CAM BELT , IT IS SLIPPED(SOME ARE)
100KM BELT, never to be ignored ,did you?

diesel:
1120 cc U I3

Have the cold start system checked out , It seems to be running to rich for to long .

Petrol? Are you referring to diesel?

If so, I’m surprised it runs at all. Drain the fuel system and use only gas.

The backfiring can occur because the car isn't shut off properly. Remember when we were kids and we would shut off, coast in gear and then restart and pop the accumulated gases? That said I think your anti-jack may be switching randomly and shutting you down. I'd start there.

Hi I have a Pajero 2002 (2003 model) GDI. Why engine stops, when I slowdown? I'v replace the petrol tank filter some time back & did a full checkup, computer shows ok, Can any one help me?

Sounds like the car is 'running rich'

Take it to a garage to have the CO emmissions analysed. If it's backfiring, it's due to unburnt petrol ending up in the exhaust and the heat from the exhaust causing it to combust.

Oil = 4.5 Litres or 1 Imperial gallon

CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CONVERTER ON THE EXHAUST IS NOT CLOGGED AND THE MUFFLER IS NOT CLOGGED

Has it had an aftermarket Stereo Fitted? This is the first place I ould look if it has..
