2000 Galant 3 0 V6 engine will idle when first started but if i turn engine off after about a minute and restart it.It won't idle unless i turn air conditioner on!
What's really weird is that it use to be just the opposit! When the car was idling if you turned on the air conditioner it would kill the engine unless you were just barely touching the gas pedal! If i start the engine cold and not turn it off it does just fine.It had a code in the computer! something about the air temp sensor but it hasn't came backWhat's really weird is that it use to be just the opposit! I suspect you have hydraulic lifters and the sludgy oil could plug up your lifters - as well as running that low on oil. Top off your oil and get an oil additive engine cleaner, warm your engine at idle only then change oil when warm. Add 1 quart of marvel mystery oil to the crankcase then top off with high mileage oil, like Valvoline. Run motor at idle only and see if this cures the problem - if not then you may need to remove the intake and replace your lifters, a costly and time consuming job. I would not try driving as you may waste the cylinder head or block by running a stuck lifter. There is also an oil additive specifically for stuck lifter and I think I would add that as well as the Marvel. I hope the quick fix works for you and good luck!!!
just follow the top radiator hose to where it attaches to the engine. There should be a housing held to the engine by 3 bolts. On the v6 it's much easier to access if you remove the battery and the battery shelf before you start.
full power is only achieved when the engine is fully warm(operating temp).so if you accelerate more than, say, a third of the gas pedal, the car will feel sluggish.
this is more apparent when first starting the car in the morning in winter.almost like the car is going to stall.
most wear in the engine is leaving it to idle when cold you should always drive the car straight away from cold.then when hot turn on the a/c if required....
I had the same poor idleing car was stoping at every junction,so yesterday i had the throttle body off and i have cleaned it inside by the flap including the flap the muc on there was unbelieveable now the car drives smooth no stalling issue no poor idleing! Make sure u DONT take the sensors off either side otherwise u get in more problems. Good luck. Mik
3.0 V6 engine? Key on, engine off the voltage on the Brown/White wire will be .5 to .75 volts. If its not, loosen the 2 screws and adjust it. 20% at idle is NOT correct. should be at "0"
I have the same "problem" with my 1990 Galant SS but I didnt think it was a problem. Everybody who knew anything about cars would always advice me to get the engine warmed-up first if it was left with the engine not running for long periods of time. I keep it warmed up for at least 5 minutes or so while waiting for the temp gauge to at least move towards the halway mark. But if its hot then a one click start should be the normal case. Try to get a tune-up on your nearest service center, they dont just replace the spark plugs but also have some sort of kit that helps with the idling and startup issues.
