HOOD RELEASE CABLE CAME UNDONE AT THE LATCH ASSEMBLY. HOW DO I OPEN IT WITH OUT THE CABLE WORKING?

you examine and test it. to see if its electrical or mech. failure.
and once discovered that follow that to logical conclusions.

On hood latch..where cable goes in..there is a hole there..trip it back..or take the 3 bolts away from latch

It sounds to me that your cable which travels fron the hood latch to the interior handle is binding or sticking. This cable can be replaced, but first check for kinks where it travels thru the frame of the car. Lubricate both the latch assembly and the cable from both ends. With the hood open, the latch inside the car should move freely back and forth and you should be able to feel the spring tension in the latch assembly. The cable is very similar to brake or shoft cables on a bicycle.

Sounds like the cable or the latch is stuck. The latch may need to be oiled. When someone pulls the handle under the dash, you should be able to watch the latch move back and forth.

Your Grand Cherokee has a small pop off panel on the inside of the rear hatch trim...after carefully removing this panel reach inside the opening and you will find a release cable...pull on this cable and the hatch latch should release...then try lubricating the latch at all contact points, and the mechanism itself...if the latch does not release the next try, then you will need to replace this latch...this is a dealer or salvage yard part...your least costly replacement will be through the salvage yard market...some salvage yards are now on-line, and will ship the part to you. If your hood latch doesn't work the you can go through the grill. There will be a cable going to the latch. You will have to use a pair of pliers and pull on the cable away from the latch.

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

If it's actually just stretched out you should be able to grab the cable behind the pull release, and using pliers, pull it far enough to release the latch.

Yes, there is a way. I've had to do it three times. Once I got it the first time, 2 and 3 were easy. You're going to need a flashlight and a long screwdriver or needlenose pliers.

Get to the grill and look through with the flashlight. You're looking for the hood release cable. Follow it as far as you can to just beneath the hood latch.

Now look for the clamp on the outer part of the cable. To the left of that you should see the inner cable (the part that moves and pulls the latch). Try to either grab it with the pliers or get the screwdriver above it and pull down. You'll here it click open when you get it.

If the cable is broken or off, you're still in the right area. Look for the latch assembly, there are two or three small arms beneath. Try to move each one to the right. Be patient, you'll get it open.

After trying to pull the cable from under the hood and accidently working it loose from the latch, I had a mechanic come out to the vehicle, and he drilled two 3/4" holes that lined up with the latch mounting screws so that he could dismount the latch mechanism from the body of the Jeep. Then the whole latch assembly came loose with the hood. Next, he reattached the latch, and then attached a wire to the latch so that it can be pulled to work the mechanism without the old cable at all, though at the expense of security, because now it can be opened from outside the vehicle, but it's difficult to find unless you know what you're looking for. This might be a little more than most people are willing to do, but it worked for me.
