Make sure the leak is sealed 1st, Diagnose & repair the leak. Drain the system, replace the water pump & installed premixed anti freeze (the type the car calls for) NOT STRAIGHT WATER.

Have you ever heard of K-Seal? That's the best cooling system stop-leak on planet earth! Under $20 at most auto parts stores ... which carry it, but some don't!

Where do you live. Never put straight water in a radiator even during the summer. Do you see any leaks around the water pump, radiator hoses, or in the passenger side floor inside also at the firewall where the heater hoses go into the heater.

Car overheated very fast, now there is a leak and the car wont start, could it be the water pump or is it more serious

Well it would depend on why the engine won't start.
If it overheated and the head gasket blew out, you may not have enough compression to start the engine.
A water pump leak would not prevent the engine from starting.

My 2000 pontiac grandam was leaking coolant its not the hoses or the radiator so I assumed it was the water pump. Was going to take it in to get it diagnosed and the pump replaced but the leak stopped....

There are several places other than the hoses, radiator, and water pump that could be leaking. You should fill the coolant system with the proper coolant, and have the system leak checked. It will cost you a few bucks to have this done, but will pinpoint where the leak is coming from, and save you money in the long run.

Bad leak, dont know if its water pump or thermostat

sounds like your water pump gasket has a hairline crack in it and as engine warms it expands and leaks more

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.

Car takes twice to start

Likely fuel pressure problem. Either the fuel pump is going bad or there's a loss of pressure in the system because of bad hoses, bad clamps, or a small leak. The first time you try to start it, the fuel pump is repressurizing the system, then when you start the second time, it has enough gas to actually start.

Smell Gas

Well korodiver it sound like the carborator was linking and then it leaked so much that no gas was getting to the carborater. The only thing that will fix your problem is just get a clean peice of cloth and push the acclerator and it will open the valves then just wipe out the carborator and it should fix it.
