Honda accord 2003 car disengage the automatic gear at zero speed

If in heavy traffic and i move, then stop, move then stop i.e crawling at very low speed. After about twenty minutes the automatic gear would disengage itself and the honda car would not move. To move from that spot i would have to switch off the engine and start it again before the automatic gear would engage again. This situation repeat itself intermittently and such scenario i would have to switch off the engine and start it again.

Is there an engine light?

Assuming there are no engine codes set

1. Do the idle learn procedure
2. Check fuel pressure (380 to 430 KPa)
3. Check idle speed (740 to 840RPM in P or N)
4. Check the brake pedal position switch (requires a scan tool)

If these all check out, look for air intake leaks, faulty harness and sensor connections.

As you can see, these steps should probably be done at a dealer.

Question 1. My 2003 Honda accord vibrates especially when the AC is on and its on drive or neutral gear, but it does not vibrate/shake when its in motion.

Hello,
It sounds as if your Automatic Transmission is having issues. The first thing to do is check the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). This is covered in the Owner's Manual (should be in your glovebox??).

If the level is low, it will cause issues. Your ATF should be serviced every 30,000 miles.

Why does my car Overheat?

Possible thermostat faulty, Thermostat automatic, stays shut, till water reaches correct temp, if it goes faulty, (ie) does not open after reaching running temp, water will not circulate, so engine overheats

My 92 accord shift level moves but will not engage any gear

First check the trans fluid (if its not a sealed transmission). They wont shift in gear if they are to low. If that is fine, The shift solenoid has most likley gone bad.

My son's car is a Honda Accord 91 and he said that when he drives it as of late the car changes gears to high or low. Sometimes it drives well then the gears shift to slow. What problem can this be??

this is one of the first "fuzzy logic" boxes fitted by honda,
the gearchange pattern will change dependant on the driving style of the driver.
first check the trans level.then without touching the gas put car in gear and let it run to max speed(about 30/35mph).stop.
then put 1/3rd gas pedal down (keep it still)and let car go to max speed, stop.then floor the gas to a safe top speed for the test road...then stop.you have just reset the change mode.
if you drive the car with only 1/3rd gas the car will change lowdown the rev range(boring) and save you a fortune in gas...
if son drives different to you the car will know who is driving and change accordingly(takes about 30 miles to react)
it is NOT in any handbook.

Trans shifts very hard after 5 minutes of stop and go traffic

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Some possibilties, not all!
