Code PO340 bad camshaft sensor. I replaced the sensor and i the car still wont start. I still get the same code and the car will not start.

My daughters car would not start so I connect the OBD Code reader and I got code PO340, camshaft position sensor malfunction. I replaced the sensor, cleared the code and the car still will not start. I disconnected the battery to make sure the code was erased but that didn't help either. Is there anything else that might cause the sensor to malfunction?

Trevor: Alittle known fact is that most Chrysler cars do not need a full OBD code reader! By performing the "Key-Dance" you can show the codes on the odometer without any reader! Look for info on how to read the codes with the ignition key.

On your problem, you need to check the wiring and connectors, and also check the proper cams and belt timing, as it is difficult but sometimes an out of timing (one tooth only) misalignment can make the car not to start.

What code number? It could have a wiring short or open to the PCM or to ground. Cam could be out of time, check the timing belt.

SOURCE: I've just replaced the PCM/ECM in my 2001 Dakota

I forgot to mention that I supplied my VIN number and mileage to the seller from whom I bought the PCM. They pre-programmed it so that I could plug it in and go.

SOURCE: code reads P0340 Camshaft position Sensor circuit

That makes the computor think the timing is off. Replace the sensor and see if that does it. You will then have to have the code cleared (erased) or the light will come back on/stay on.

After having my 06 dodge stratus checked out. 6 codes showed up. I don't want to just start throwing parts on without knowing the real reason for the problem. The car drives fine and then just...

Let's start with the codes.

Po129 refers to barosensor

Po344 is a code for the camshaft position sensor

Po339 crankshaft position sensor

Po340 camshaft position circuit malfunction

Po335 crankshaft POS sensor malfunction

Po122 throttle pedal position

Item 2,3,4,5 relate to each other that s camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. Since both already show a malfunction code, it would be advisable to change.

Sometimes other codes show up because there is a relation but not that the item is bad.
