My daughters car would not start so I connect the OBD Code reader and I got code PO340, camshaft position sensor malfunction. I replaced the sensor, cleared the code and the car still will not start. I disconnected the battery to make sure the code was erased but that didn't help either. Is there anything else that might cause the sensor to malfunction?
Trevor: Alittle known fact is that most Chrysler cars do not need a full OBD code reader! By performing the "Key-Dance" you can show the codes on the odometer without any reader! Look for info on how to read the codes with the ignition key.
On your problem, you need to check the wiring and connectors, and also check the proper cams and belt timing, as it is difficult but sometimes an out of timing (one tooth only) misalignment can make the car not to start.

What code number? It could have a wiring short or open to the PCM or to ground. Cam could be out of time, check the timing belt.

your old sensor weren't bad at first, u might have a bad connection, check connection and clean connections with contact cleaner
SOURCE: I've just replaced the PCM/ECM in my 2001 Dakota
I forgot to mention that I supplied my VIN number and mileage to the seller from whom I bought the PCM. They pre-programmed it so that I could plug it in and go.

That makes the computor think the timing is off. Replace the sensor and see if that does it. You will then have to have the code cleared (erased) or the light will come back on/stay on.
SOURCE: code po340 says camshaft position
replace the cam shaft positioning sensor. this is not a big job
the sensor is usually on front of block above the crankshaft pulley wheel
to change involves disconecting wire from sensor. remove bolt remove sensor, intall new sensor, replace bolt.re connect wire
