If you have a basic knowledge of how electrical works and how a starer system works you can create a basic and simple circuit using your stock ignition switch to bypass everything stock and if you have an alarm this will still allow you to leave it intact.

2000 Xterra 4WD. Installed new starter. Why doesn't it start?

Check for power to the starter solenoid with the key in the start position. Chances are you have no power signal to the starter. If you have power at the starter it is most likely a bad replacement starter. If there is no power you need to check the ignition switch for power out in the start position. If there is power there you need to check the starter relay

05 300 no power to starter

It can be faulty starter or there is loose connection from battery to starter. The starter assembly gets power from battery.Check voltages at starter wires and see if you are getting 12 volts or not.If not then its no power issue due to low battery volt or no connection between battery to starter.

Changed starter...new battery....lights and radio work nothing happens when turn the key.

Starter Fuse? Possible failed ignition switch. Loose Cables on battery or starter. Starter not grounding properly. Bad starter Relay? Use Voltmeter check voltage going to main starter wire while someone cranks the motor if not power check power to starter relay while cranking if no power suspect ignition switch.

When I turn the key in the ignition the car won't start and the starter makes no sound. It has a new battery and a new alternator. What I can I do besides set it on fire?

You may have a bad starter, the best to determine this is by testing for power at the starter, also the battery is new but is it still good and fully charged, you may what to make sure battery is fully charged first, then test starter with a test light, there are two connection at starter, one is a battery cable this has power at all times then the small wire, this should have power when key is held in the crank postion, have someone hold the key while you test. if theres power at both connections then starter is bad, heres a diagram to show you where to test starter.5eb28af.jpg

I replaced the starter solenoid but it will still not start what is your suggestion

First test for power at starter,if your getting power to starter then starter is bad, also check the batt cable going to starter at starter for corrsion at terminal,if that cable has power and the small wire gets power when key in the crank spot then starter is no good,

Hi i have a vw bora which doesnt start but has ignition lights, when key is turned lights dont fade and there is no click from starter motor

check connections on starter , the small feed should get power when you turn key to start/crank position, if no power to that check the outputs on the back of the switch /ignition barrel,
if power to starter, then check power to back off starter on large cable (goes direct to battery) if power to both, starter u/s
if power at switch but not at small power feed at starter, relay/fuse fault, or if fitted cut out switch
