you more than likely have a dirty or bad injector in this situation, you can change your fuel filter and run a can of royal purple maxflow fuel system cleaner to a half a tank of gas if it is not too bad this will probably clear it up, if the low rpm miss is still there you need to bring it into a repair center and have a decarbonization done to the engine this will clean the injectors top end of the motor cataletic convertors and pretty much the intire engine

Do you have the idle speed turned up to keep it from dying? Because it is high. Check engine light on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks at the gasket under the throttle body? How does the car run under acceleration? You might have a worn distributor shaft.

Actually, the higher RPMs mask misses that are very noticeable at idle.
Check under the hood at night in a dark place and look for fireworks around your ignition wiring; if your vehicle still has the original (crappy) ignition wiring, you may be due for replacing it.
Also, I'm pretty sure you have some version of 'on-board' diagnostics which can be scanned for stored errors. Call first, but most chain auto parts stores offer a free scan of the computer and may be able to pinpoint your problem in a minute or two.

run a fuel pressure test, if that checks out fine it may be a faulty coil pack or ignition control module

hello, i first must ask why that engine would EVER be reved to 4000 RPM? it is likely you are up against the rev-limiter and your ignition is made not to over rev. be very careful....4000 RPM on that engine could/will severly damage your tourque convertor........very expensive it is common for the EGR passages on that model to plug up with carbon, remove valve, clean ports, and retest for low speed miss/hesitation, good luck....marty
