Can you measure how much was drained by filling gallon or quart jugs? Most of these units have oversized oil pan to allow for extra oil. At ten quarts you should be seeing it on the dipstick. I don't believe that it will hold more than twelve quarts.
check that you did not reverse the coil wires. with the key on one will be hot when checked with a test lite that one goes to the positive (+) terminal of the coil
