Most modern vehicles do not have window cables. Your particular Grand Am probably has a "half moon" flat gear and scissors arrangement for lifting and lowering the windows.

you have to remove the door panel, the door glass is on a steel runner, and that is on a scissor system, sounds like the runner has come off the scissor system, this is an easy fix,( if nothing is broken ), but takes a little time and care......approx 30 minutes

The load leveler will be located on the rear axle. It will mount to the axle and have a scissor arm that extends to the body. This replacement is fairly simple, remove the mounting bolts on the axle and then unclip the scissor arm off of the body and re-install new part. Pay attention to where the scissor arm is mounted.

in may not only be the window motor there is a scissor rail system in the door look at that first if the wheels are broken or not in the track it was have the same effect as a broken gear teeth in the motor i recently learned that once these wheels break you have to buy the whole motor and regulator set up wihch usually isnt cheap if it is the wheels the very effective and cheap way to fix this is to drill out the arm on the scissor go to a hardware store and get some sealed closet door rollers it works just as good or better than factory and trust me $5.00 and some work is way better than $175.00+ and a lot of work pulling the motor, please rate if this solves the problem.. thank you.

mine did the same, you need to stick a pen, or in my case a pair of scissors in the shift over-ride.
