2004 honda shaking engine light

My car started shaking and the engine light flashed periodically. The car has been sitting the past 2 days and the temperature has been below freezing. I had a tune-up done in February, the starter replaced in August and the battery is only 1 year old.

If the coolant was frozen when you started the motor then there could be engine damage. If ok then run the fault codes and check for a faulty ambient temperature sensor.

SOURCE: car won't start when it's hot outside

My daughter's 1991 Honda Accord did the same thing. I discovered that the main relay had to be replaced. Apparently the solder used in the original main relay was poor and would actually "soften" in the heat and cause a disconnection. When the cabin temperature dropped, the solder would cool and reconnect. Anyway, replacing the main relay worked. My daughter's car has not had this problem since.

SOURCE: replace starter in 2004 honda accord

Try 'jiggling' the key while you hold it in the start position' this could be a failed ignition switch.
It could also be that the + terminal on the starter or starter solenoid may be corroded. Since the battery was just replaced, those terminals are probably clean enough but check the negative cable where it attaches to the chassis or block. If the connection is flaky here, enough current can often pass to allow lower current devices to operate but drop too much voltage if the starter is trying to operate. Starters require 100-200 amperes, many times higher than anything else in our vehicles and show up cruddy connections pretty quick.

Have you checked the throttle body? That requires an annual cleaning and could very well be the cause of the issues you have with your Honda.

2004 Ford expedition check engine soon light is flashing and car shakes hard when stepping on the accelerator

Your car is misfiring. You should not drive the vehicle while it is misfiring. If you want to DIY it you can start with you ignition system. Make sure all spark plugs, plug wires, and ignition coils are secure and in good condition.

it could be ignition coil(coil pack). misfire and vacuum leaks gives you engine light's on. and if fuel pump or filter not good, engine wont start.

I was driving , next thing i know mmy honda accord (engine light ) started flashing,. i noticed the car was shaky as well

a flashing check engine light means catalyst damaging misfire which is just about the worst thing for your engine. i suggest not driving it til its fixed. misfires will cause it to shake. check for spark first.

you may have purchased some bad fuel only. it happens alot. pay attention to the fuel that you purchase as hondas are known for rejection of ethynol based fuel. or you bought bad gas that had water in it. be loyal to the place that you purchase your fuel! if it sounds to good to be true, well you know. the best fuel is 93 octane at the place that you can trust to sell 93octane right? i can't recommend a certain buisness, but oil spills are never good. good luck and thank you for choosing fixya.com.

Maintenance light comes on when engine starts

Usually that light stays on when you are over due for oil service, but since you state its only staying on for a short period, it might be close for the counter to reach zero miles. What I can suggest is to try and reset the counter for your maintenance light. here is hondas most typical way to resest...." insert key in ignition switch, turn key on to "run" position, do not start the car. with out taking key out return key back to "OFF", now press and hold the odometer trip reset button. while holding button turn the key back ON. Keep holding until you see the light blink/flash or on some models in the odometer window you will see the actual counter reset.
