Fast idle is many times caused by a engine intake vacuum leak, use a can of carb spray and spray the top of the engine for leaks, if u hit one u will hear the eng change idle speed, also look for split or leaking vacuum hoses.

MY F250 IS ROUGHT AT COLD AND IT TAKES TO WARM UP. AND EVEN AFTER WARM UP IS ROUGHT BUT NOT AS MUCH. A MECHANIC CLEAN THE EGR AND IT IMPROVE BY 85 PERCENT BUT IS STILL ROUGHT

If you already check for vacuum leaks, change the plugs, fuel and air filters, the next step is to remove the plastic duct from the TB to expose and wipe clean the IAT sensor (screen covering TB entrance) applying Carb. Cleaner into a clean rag to wipe it clean. Do not apply Carb. Cleaner directly into TB or IAT Sensor. If problem persists, your IAC valve may be defective.

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve adjusts the engine idle speed. The valve is located on the side of the throttle body. The valve is controlled by a duty cycle signal from the PCM and allows air to bypass the throttle plate in order to maintain the proper idle speed.

Do not attempt to clean the IAC valve. Carburetor tune-up cleaners or any type of solvent cleaners will damage the internal components of the valve.

Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

I have a 91 s10 chevy, and lately i have been having problems with the way it has been running on warm up. When i fire it up it spuders and dies right away. But will run fine after it is warm? i dont know...

Hi there sounds like idle air control valve failure. Or also known as fast idle valve. I would suggest locate and clean. If that doesn't help then replace it and you should be good to go

1994 honda civic 1.5 16v stalling after pressing accelerator from idle

Another place to look is your IAC, or Idle air control valve. It is bolted to the back of the intake manifold, and can be removed and cleaned. It is usually the cause of most Honda Idle problems.

My 1991 Celica GTS has a fast idle even when the engine is warm. I have already turned the idle adjust screw all the way down.

The idle on these is controlled electronically by an IAC solenoid (idle air control). Adjusting the screw will not do anything to adjust your idle down. Chances are you could have a vacuum leak, or a faulty IAC solenoid. I would start by checking for vacuum leaks.

I have a 92 honda accord ex that the it idles go

If it does that when the engine is warmed up (full operating temp.) it may be you iac valve, or your fast idle valve. They get gummed up. It also could be your PVC valve, but probably not.:

IAC in red. Fast Idle in yellow. Your PVC valve is plugged into the valve cover (the black hose in between the red and yellow in the picture) it simply pulls out. It should rattle when shaken.
Hope this gives you a start on the problem.
