What does p0101 code mean

I have the code of p0101 show up on my 01 jimmy, says maf performance what does this mean and how do i take care of it

The mass air flow sensor is bad and needs replacing. It is located in the duct tube coming from the air filter to the throttle body. When this goes completely out then the car wont start. Until then it will have some power loss and fuel average will go down.

What is code p0101/p0300/p0171

code p0101 refers to MAF sensor and VAF sensor--range /performance problems===causes --intake leakage/blockage ---MAF/VAF sensor failure.

code p0300 refers to random misfires multiple cylinders ---causes --spark plugs /HT leads --injector /s-- ignition coil/ s--low compression ---wiring

check fuel pressure in manifold and HT leads

code p0171 refers to system too lean bank 1 ===causes --intake /exhaust air leak---AIR system---MAF/VAF sensors ---fuel pressure /pump---injectors ---HO2S sensor

Basically there are two codes referring to the MAF/VAF sensors so check them out and two codes referring to fuel pressure and pump so have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to determine if pump or pressure regulator.

Technical DescriptionMass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input
What does that mean?Basically this means that there is a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit. A more technical description would be that the MAF circuit had lower than expected voltage (air flow). Other MAF sensor circuit DTC trouble codes are P0100, P0101, P0103, and P0104.

SymptomsYou will likely not notice any serious drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a general decrease in power or sluggishness.
CausesA code P0102 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF may be disconnected, or a wiring connection may be bad
  • The MAF may be dirty or otherwise contaminated (Note: if you use a reusable oiled air filter, be careful not to apply too much oil or that can contaminate the MAF).
  • The MAF sensor may be faulty
  • The vehicle computer may be faulty (very rare)

  • P0174 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2
  • Would start with the mass air flow sensor the other two codes may have been triggered by the performance of the MAF sensor. Is the vehicle running poorly or have high or low idle?

    Engine code P0101 engine runs rough and smells rich

    code P0101 it means that MAF meter is out of range .no reprogramming the ECM is not gone fix youre problem, the car may have a vacuum leak check the vacuum hoses check you're EGR valve it may be stuck open with carbon also check fuel pressure regulator for fuel leak out of vacuum hose,and if everything is OK change MAF sensor .before that check MAF connector to make sure is not loose or open

    Hello mark...according to the manual for Volkswagen Engine and Transmission Codes...

    P0101 Mass or volume air flow circuit performance problem

    P3131 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Control Limit Exceeded

    Dirt and carbon build up will cause this in some cases. You might try removing and cleaning the MAF sensor with an electrical contact cleaner first. You will still need to clear the error codes with VAG-COM and see if they return.

    Emmission codes, Mass air flow sensor

    The P0101 code is indeed a code indicating an issue with the MAF sensor. It could be something as simple as cleaning the sensor, or it could be faulty and in need of replacement.

    Now, the P1870 code refers to the transmission, and a condition in which the PCM is detecting excessive slipping. That is to say it perceives the transmission slipping as it compares engine speed (RPM) and vehicle speed (MPH) and should a ratio be exceeded then the PCM will set code P1870. I would expect that you would notice a bit harsher shifting in response to this code, particularly on the 1-2 shift as the PCM will command higher fluid pressure to combat the slipping.

    Now, it is possible that the an issue with the MAF would cause signals to the PCM to change significantly and to such an extent that the PCM would think something is off with the transmission, so I would start there, with the MAF sensor and see if that helps as it appears you were already thinking.
