I am looking for a likely solution to this 1999 Lexus RX300 4WD transmission that usually does not shift into high gear (overdrive).
My suspicion is a malfunctioning shift solenoid just inside the transmission pan, or a torque converter solenoid. Instead of shifting at 45 mph normally, it shudders, or only occasionally completes the final shift. The other lower shift patterns perform normally
The dealer parts department sent me a diagram with part numbers showing the shift solenoids in the transmission, however they have not been helpful in identifying what function each solenoid controls
Any other solutions are welcome Also, would like to locate a cheaper source for the parts than the dealer
Thanks,
Mark
SOURCE: ? to Replace Timing belt on 2000 Lexus Rx300 with 57,000 miles.
If it is running perfectly I wouldn't think that you would need to replace the timing belt. You shouldn't need to replace that until 100,000-120,000 miles. I would definitely hold off until now unless you have start having some timing problems. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
SOURCE: replace side marker light on lexus rx300
Remove 3 - 4 screws on fender cover close to side marker light. Pull fender cover out a bit for you to use your other hand to reach side marker light. By twisting on one direction and here you go the light out. Replace new bulb and replace everything on reverse order.
SOURCE: Lexus RX300 engine light n VSC light comes on
VSC means Vehicle Stability Control.
It comes on when the sensor send a signal that the vehicle is not stable on the ground.....check the wheel balancing and alignment and the air pressure of your tires too.
Good luck.

SOURCE: 99 lexus rx300 has engine miss on cyl 2,4,6 all
2-4-6 could be a fuel or ignition issue, hopefully not a valve. If you have the engine tested at the dealership they will attach a code reader under dash to analize and this should help pinpoint the problem.
SOURCE: not shifting into overdrive and check engine light
LEXUS RX 300 99 MY CK ENGINE LIGHT WON'T GO OFF
Start by checking the least expensive items:
Make sure you are not activating the O/D switch in the shift stick inadvertently.
Look at the display panel, if the "Eng" light is on, you must get the code and repair the affected item. If you have knock sensors and/or oxygen sensors malfunctions that may prevent the transmission from shifting to O/D.
Check the ground cables located in the engine compartment, especially the ones behind the air intake manifold. If they are loose or broken it affects the ECU (car computer) and causes the transmission to work erratically. If they become disconnected it may burn the ECU and shut down the car.
Now going to more profound mechanics, it could be a sticking shift solenoid valve, your RX300 transmission have five of those located were the transmission oil strainer (filter) is. It can also be an ECU malfunction and/or related to the wiring from the ECU to the transmission connectors.
Always start from the least expensive and recheck the obvious. Good luck.
