2004 ford mustang wont shift into any position and i dont have ny brake lights.
Mine is doing the same thing. I have to turn the key 1/2 way on, put it in neutral and then start it. I have NO break lights. Turns out my break pedal switch, the wires were disconnected from that switch. It's a dealer item they said.. so i'm trying to research it right now. I'll letcha know if it works
I'm not that familiar with this model, but it sounds like either a brake light fuse or the brake pedal switch could be the problem.
Great! Now you just have to figure out whether it is the switch itself, or a fuse, or a wire someplace. I can't help you much with that. You need to have a wiring diagram in your hand that shows where the splice points and connectors are located, or follow the color of the wires from the brake light switch back through the firewall, checking for power (with a 12V test bulb: a meter will read voltage sometimes even if the connection is corroded because it doesn't draw any significant amount of current). It could be a loose connection or corrosion inside the fuse box or at the firewall connectors. Initially, I would be suspicious of the pedal switch itself.

we ran a wire from the stop lamp switch to the car battery and was able to get it in gear and we had brake lights, but as soon as you release the wire from the battery no lights, and no shifting.
