Relacement of ford transmission

I have a 4.1 crossfow motor with 3stage auto I want to find out what year and model would I search for to replace the 3stage with a 4speed auto.
I'm doing a custom job on my bedford van and will look for a complete loom out of a ford falcon ute. As will need a loom to run 4 speed correctly.
Model's that I'm looking at are the 1989 Gls and the 1993 XG just wondering if I'm on the right track or does anyone have a better solution,

SOURCE: Radio wiring ford xg ute

On new systems, like the one you bought to replace old one: grey and white are front, purple and green are rear. New wires should be labelled or shown on diagram on radio body. Stripes indicate negative side of speaker.

On your old loom: cut back behind plug, and strip wires at ends. Isolate power and grounds, and any that go hot EVER! Now checking just the remaining wires, use a AA or 9-volt battery, and touch pairs of wires to opposite poles of the battery. If you touch two that go to the same speaker, you will hear a slight static sound at that speaker: label these for that speaker, and so on. Once you get the pairs seperated and labelled by speaker location, the negs will be the striped ones, though you may not find they all have stripes. once you pair them, test in both polarity positions, the correct one will sound better right away. Should be able to reach max volume with little buzz or distortion. If not switch pow and neg sides. Hope this helps, TT

SOURCE: Hi I have got a

I did my best to research this problem back the first time I saw it posted. What I came up with is use the computer from the donor engine/car. Your Neutral switch should also come from the donor in respect this switch is found on the clutch in a manual car not on the trans itself as in a auto. The reverse light will also come from the manual trans, and to find which wire is which in transplant car. Use a jumper wire and probe the harness till the reverse lights come on. I can not find a schematic for these cars on the net. Your best bet will be to get a shop manual for both and find the wires there. I hope to have been some help to you.

Iam no mech but is it hard 2 change the motor n transmission mounts in a 96 ford thunderbird 3.8 engine if it is whats the going price 2 do so i dont get taken

It is fairly easy to do if you have a lift, but it is possible to do on the ground with a jack and jack stands. You will need to be able to unbolt both sides of the mount and support the engine with the jack while you replace the mounts. If you download the autozone app to a smart pone or tablet it will give you a repair estimate calculator,

I change motor&trans together when finished the trans. has no revers or netural

When you changed the motor and transmission, did you use the gearshift control assembly that came with the motor and transmission that you installed?

Or did you do an exact match-up of motor for motor / transmission for transmission and re-use the original gearshift control assembly?

Predicated that the transmission is used, like from a junk yard and had been sitting, it may be defective; or it's just a matter of readjusting the cables from the shifter control assembly to the crossover cables to the gear shift selector at the transmission.

That model production year included a 5-speed manual w/OD transmission; 3-speed automatic; and a 4 speed auto w/OD.

If you don't mind me asking what did you remove from the car?...and what did you replace it with?

Were to find dipstick for auto tranmission on a1998 el falcon

There is no dipstick on this model. Later model falcons with the 4 speed Borg Warner auto have a filler plug in the side of the box, in much the same way as a manual transmission. To check fluid level, you will need to raise the vehicle, making sure it is level, and remove the filler plug. Make sure transmission is in neutral when doing this. If the level is correct, you will have a small dribble of fluid from the hole. if not, top up until fluid gently dribbles out.

95 ford probe se auto. trans. shifts back and forth from 3rd and 4th gear once on hwy. suspect o/d switch or speed/shifting sensors. any ideas?

I own a 1995 Ford Probe SE 2.0L that suffered the same problem. The transmission shop Techs insisted the transmission was blown and needed replaced. After doing some research it turn out to be the Park Neutral Switch also known as a Transmission Range Sensor right below the air box. The part cost 54 bucks. The problem stopped after replacing it. About a year latter the problem came back. After doing some more research it turn out to be the VSS speed sensor. The part cost 57 bucks. The problem stopped after replacing it.
