97 dodge dakoata main fuse keeps blowing 140 amp fuse

when first starting truck fuse blows, truck runs off battery intill battery is dead votage gage goes down battery goes dead and truck stops running. Alternator test good but putting out 28 volts were the main cable comes off the alternator and screws to the 140 amp fuse located in the fuse box under the hood next to the battery.

I tested it with volt meter were it bolt up to the fuse that was being blown.

Regulator in alternator obviously faulty, have it bench tested & fixed or replace alternator, and cure your problem.

Rather than me go through all necessary tests, which will take forever to type out & explain, try (autozone.com) and register for free, and get access to manuals for your particular vehicle. It gives you pictures etc & will make it easier & faster for you to diagnose. Good Luck.

Will a blown fuse keep a dodge the coda 2000 with a 4.7 from starting the fuses 140 amp fuse that runs from the battery to the alternator

Hi Kelly, IM AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

YES Kelly that fuse will keep the vehicle from starting, If you install a new fuse and it blows again you most likely have a shorted alternator, to check it out, simple unhook the power wire from the back of the alternator, install a new fuse and if it does not blow again then replaced the alternator with a new one. CAUSION: Please be very careful not to let the power wire from the alternator touch anything be cause it can melt something. Best way is to unhook the battery, take the wire off and wrap it with a towel then hook the battery back up and do your test with the fuse. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website:

Dodge radio problems

fuses blow because of excessive current flow from a dead short to earth. You haven't stated which fuse blows and what the items are covered by that fuse. so check the power wire from that fuse and trace it until you find a burnt area or a place where the power wire is touching the body before it gets to something it is running

I have a 97 galant that keeps blowing the 100 amp fuse? alternator tested good twice checked wiring reads good is there another fuse ?

Usually that fuse powers the alternator and the fuse box.
It would have to be a big short to ground to blow that fuse.
Its possible the main wire to the alternator is touching a metal spot, or the alternator is shorting out inside when it is running.
What is draining the battery may be something else, or the battery could be discharging after the fuse blows if the alternator is not charging it.

1999 dodge ram truck 1500 4x4 worked fine park it and next morning tried to start truck but all bell and lights come on but 30 amp ignition run fuse keeps blowing and truck wont start ran fine when...

This 30 amp fuse, If it blows when cranking, it is usually the starter dragging, if it blows by just turning the key on it is usually the fuel pump drawing too many amps.
I hope this helps.

Keeps blowing the prime fuse under hood, gas gage won't read, heated seats won't come on,after truck starts, blows that fuse each time.Problem just started.

this problem is most likely caused by a fuel pump with high amp. draw on start up.use a amp meter.then replace fuel pump.
