the last time I changed the oil in a manual tranny that is all I had to do, the level in mine was determined by putting an 1/8 bend in a piece of wire, add oil then check to see if you can touch the oil with the wire, when it does it is full enough.
Have you changed your transmission fluid? I am assuming that it is automatic.Could be low on transmission fluid. Could also be filters in you tranny stopped up with slug/ gear shivers.Could also be band in transmission needs adjusting.
sometimes loss of power can be caused by a clogged catalytic converter which can make the car at times hesitate, and about the trasmission maybe the governor on it might be faulty what that does it changes the gears when it reaches certain speed
