My friend's 2001 Hyundai sonata does this. I found out many issues with the car, most of the issues were censors. It was the main issue in the Hyundai... Try scanning the ecu for codes, it will tell you something.

SOURCE: Nissan sentra keeps shutting off while driving

~lopez:
I had similar problems after getting my ECU replaced.
later i got a letter from nissan saying it was the wrong program they flashed on the ECU (think it was a maxima ECU they flashed into my sentra)
it only seemed to do it right after my car warmed up while i was slowing down (for a stop) but never cut out when i was at a complete stop.

you can call nissan to see if there are any recalls or updates for your ECU program (they should be free if there is)

if that does not work, or it cuts off while accelerating, try checking your fuel/air ratio, spark plugs, air filter, and fuel injectors. (a fuel filter can even cause cut-outs as well if it's seriously clogged, but it's usually hard to start as well)

kinda sounds like heat problems, check to make sure your temp gauge is working and see if this helps...
- when it cuts out on you, turn key all the way off, then turn it back to full on (but don't crank) this should let you rad. fan run without cranking your car. if this causes the wait time to be shorter before you can crank it again (less than an hour) then it's most likely a temp gauge, water pump, hose or even a belt.

My nissan sentra 1987 stops, stalls and cuts off engine

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

1997 sentra wants to stall and has no power after like 20 minutes

Are we "PARTS_NOSING" instead of DIAGNOSING? Sounds to me like you have thrown some pretty expensive parts at this problem....

MANY things can cause an engine to lose power. That is why the problem should be properly diagnosed. If you keep going the way you have been, you could have a whole new car before finding the cause of your problem.

To begin with, your engine is controlled by a computer system that is capable of self-diagnosis. Has anybody scanned the onboard computer for fault codes?

The fuel system can cause an engine to lose power. Has anybody checked the fuel pressure?

A restricted exhaust can cause an engine to lose power (smashed, bent tailpipe, clogged catalytic converter, etc.) Has anyone checked the exhaust system back-pressure?

Nobody online can do much more than GUESS what is causing your problem without some proper diagnosis procedures being performed.
