The generic obd2 code reader and scanner will only read faults that are exhaust emission related - for everything else you will need either a manufacturer specific device or one of the better professional types loaded with the correct software.

It may well be the crankshaft position sensor, which is one of the most common error codes for any vehicle.

Unfortunately there's no way of testing a crankshaft position sensor other than replacing it.

A point to bear in mind is that an error code can display as a warning light .. and the true fault may be 'unknown'.

You have a choice: replace the crankshaft sensor in the hope that things are fixed .. or get a professional diagnostic check done. A mobile mechanic ..

A hand-held diagnostic machine is unlikely to be able to identify an error code on a pre-2004 vehicle. That's why mechanics -good ones - have a 'selection' of hand held diagnostic readers.

Why would you think you have a immobilizer problem ? Doesn't the vehicle start ? Is there a security light lit on the instrument cluster ? What make vehicle ? What diagnostic machine ? Your P1351 is a manufacturer specific code ! http://www.obd-codes.com/p1351

If your code scanner does not provide definitions for the codes you can google the code letter and number. Most manufactures use the same definitions for their codes. Just type in your vehicle model and the code

Either go to a local garage that services Fords and ask them to look up the code in their diagnostic machine manual, or buy yourself a plug in diagnostic code reader available at automotive supply stores (plugs into the multiconnection under the dashboard, the same place where they attach the diagnostic machine during inspection).

You will only be able to afford a code reader & they
only read generic codes,not ALL info, as you suggested.

If you have no factory service manuals,you won't know
how your vehicles systems work

Then without the powertrain/emissions diagnostic manuals,
and possibly wiring diagrams,you won't have the reference
material necessary, to learn where to start any testing,once
you get codes

sometimes when you buy a Diagnostic machine if you get a expensive one it
tells you the code and the problem. if your didnt tell you then you can go online and
check for the reason for the codes.
try searching code base on your manufactor diagnostic you have.
