Has to be a drive axle,most likely an inner joint,should be able to feel the play if one is bad (jacked up to let the wheel spin freely).
Also. If the front suspension is weak,or lowered, the CV axle will bottom out in the inner plunge cup and make a terrible vibration.

My guess would be the transmission bands are slipping. This would cause what you describe. First check the transmission fluid and make sure it is full. Check it according to the instructions in your owners manual. If you only had an issue with the tach I would suspect a loose ground wire, but considering the transmission is acting up you more than likely have a transition issue that is just being reflected in the tach.
