Windshield wipers won't work

One day I go to use the windsield wipers and they won't work. I can hear the motor running but they wont move. I have cleared any blockages that could be obstructing the blades.

Check the nuts holding your wiper arms on first. or your linkage has come off the motor.

Sounds like the wiper arm has become disconnected. There may be a clip or bushing that has broken or fallen off. The wiper motor/arms etc are accessible by taking the cover off (usually plastic and possibly held in by screws or large plastic slots) that's at the base of the windshield. You may have to lift the hood for access and removal. Just take your time and don't force anything.

It's really simple after that. You turn your motor on and look for moving parts, that'll be the wiper motor. Either it's disconnected at the motor or it be disconnected on the arm. Usually one arm will move both wipers. If you're lucky, maybe it's just fallen off and you can find the clip or bushing and re-attach it. Otherwise, you may have to get a new part, which in this case would probably come from the dealer.

You may possibly also get it from a junkyard, but chances are if it's a small part, then they may not sell it to you. However some junk yards WILL sell you these small parts, and others may even let you pull the part yourself. If you could do this, you could also see how the part properly attaches.

If it's confusing how to re-attach the parts, then you may have to buy a Haynes or Chilton manual to see exactly how everything looks. Diagrams would be great. If there's no good pix in the manual, then try online. The best would be to see fully functional operating wipers on a similar car. Maybe find a buddy to take a peek at his after you practice on yours.

The part if broken should fit multiple years of your make of car.

Get this fixed soon because not only will it not pass inspection, but it is highly unsafe.

SOURCE: windshield wiper arms move all ove rthe windshield incosistently

turn your wipers on and turn the key off when the are about 1/4 to half way up on the winshield and try to pull them one way or the other and see if they move
It really sounds like the wiper transmission arm has gotten stripped the only to fix it is to replace trasmission arm assembly you can get them from your local junk yard cheap!
generally where wiper arms push on there is an additiona part you will have to pull off in order to change the wiper arm assembly

SOURCE: 2005 honda odyssey wiper blades stopped working

1. Open Hood.
2. Remove wiper arms by removing cap nuts. they are a tight fit . there is a puller for this.
3 Remove cowel cover . once cover is off you will see the wiper motor and transmission assy. Possibly a snap joint wore out oa nut holding motor drive arm in place loosened up.

SOURCE: 2006 CRV rear wiper not working

Inspect the wiper where it attaches to the motor for any broken or missing parts. Also, examine the wiper itself for damage. If so replace it with another from your local auto parts store. Also if you ask, they will install it for you.

Windshield wipers do not work on my 2004 crown victoria

It sounds like the wiper switch was going bad and now it has totally failed.

OR, it could be the wiper motor itself is bad.

If you can get to the wires that connect to the wiper motor, see if any power is coming to them when you move the wiper switch to each speed. If not, bad switch. Replace it.

Or The Linkages Are Seized ,If The Motor Just Hums No Movement Heard,In Which Case Try Spraying Q 20 On The Linkage And Try Moving The Wiper Arms By Hand To Get It Going Again,
If Not The Motor May Just Be Burn;t Out.

Windshield wipers dont work, you can hear the motor runnig but wipers wont move

The windshield motor is connected to the windshield wiper's arms via mechanical linkage. The linkage had been severed. There's a lockpin that secures this linkage. If rust/corrosion had built up on this lockpin, it may had fallen off. Buy a Haynes or Chilton manual to see how to access the wiper motor area.

The windshield wipers on my Chevy Blazer 97 stopped working, just makes a sound, but not moving? What do I need to check/replace?

Sounds like the windshield wiper motor needs to be replaced. The gear inside may be stripped so you'll hear it running but it won't do anything. I've had that happen with the rear wiper motor. Hope that helps.

Windsield wipers not workin properly--wipers vont come to stop position on the lower part of the windshield or they wont stop rigt away.

Try spraying the wiper-motor electrical plugs/switch with 'electrical contact cleaner'. This is available in autoparts stores in spray cans.
Next you could replace the wiper motor entirely.

Windshield wiper failure on 98 Chevy Malibu

Hi, you wont be able to move the wipers manually as they will be locked by the motor. There is only two obvious reasons why the motor should fail again. The new motor was a poor quality replacement or there is an underlying problem on the car like the wiper motor mechanism has excessive play or is stiff/tight and over working the motor causing it to fail. you need to have a proper check over before swapping it again.

You broke the wiper transmission. Most of the time they are dealer only parts.
