i'm hesitating to change this expensive part
The crankshaft sensor determines when to fire the plugs; if it has failed, no plugs will fire.
If you have no mechanic friends who know how to test this sensor, you should probably invest in an aftermarket service manual.
They have simple tests for most sensors and conditions that don't require costly equipment or detailed knowledge.
