I have an 03 nissan altima when i turn car on i hear a bad clicking noise coming from engine some days when car warms up i turn it off then back off then i can barely hear it it lowers down after driving for about 7 to 10 mins
1st check the the oil level and the vehicle's oil type.(owners manuel) 5w30-10w30
10w 30 is a thicker oil and could possibly be causing this.(Moves more freely through the engine heats the oil)
why would it only do it when you put it into gear
The other cause of ticking sounds is the harmonic balancer. But dry rocker arms in the valve cover is still the most likely cause.
no idea why it makes noise in gear and not in park.

CHECK TIMMING BELT TENSIONER SLACK USUALLY BREAKS AND IT MAKES A LOT OF TICKING NOISE WHEN CAR IS WARMING UP ,NEED TO REPLACE TIMMING CHAIN AND TENSIONERS
