Battery goes dead intermittently

Recently bought a 2000 outback with approx 140k on it seems to be in good overall shape but now we have found an electrical problem..the first time we thought we'd left a door ajar or something...after having been running fine and just taken out for a short drive unlock the car all seems normal all lights are working and as soon as you turn the key everything goes dead.. battery has been checked and pronounced ok.. this has happened twice now so assuming it isnt driver error...

You have a parasitic drain problem.

Have any aftermarket components been installed?

D/C the negative battery cable and hook an ammeter between the battery terminal and the cable. Anything over 50 milliamps is too high. If it is over 50 milliamps:

Go to each fuse box and pull 1 fuse at a time, check the change in the amperage reading, then plug it back in. If the reading drops to normal levels (below 50 milliamps) when a certain fuse is pulled, the problem is in the circuit powered by that fuse. Find the different components powered by that fuse and check them.

How old is the battery. IOD isn't the problem. The computers will draw between .005 and .015. Anything above .03 is not good. At .03 a new battery will last about 45 days. Old batteries can have the voltage, but not sustain the amperage. Load test the battery.

Battery tested dead, bought new battery and installed it but the alternator test read no voltage... tech said that 2000 sentra has had problem in which blown lamp circuit fuse can cause a no voltage...
Yes. You may check the fuse frist but usally the alternator when it goes it goes and that is it. There is one fuse for that and it should be under the hood of the car. if that is good insatll a new alternator.

99 subaru outback battery goes dead overnite. checks good under load test.
you may have something draining the battery a bare wire touching something, check all of the lights , trunk,hood, glove box to make sure they are all off try disconnecting a lead from the battery overnight to see if the battery still is dead in the morning, if it doesn't go dead you will have to try and find out where the problem is .....hope this helps......cheers.

The battery (which I have replaced at least 3 times) is being drained??? I replaced the alternater. That did not help. I found the parking light light switch on the steering column - off. Please...

If you are handy this will allow you to figure out which circuit has the problem.
If you have electric door locks try pulling the fuse for its circuit-door locks have a habit of going bad and drawing current.

or check for a map light, glove box light, trunk light...you get the idea. that might be on when its not supposed to be on.

check the connection at the altenator and the other end of the ground away from the battery. grounds that have become corroded or loose have been known to cause strange problems. also check your main fuses in the engine compartment fuse box to make sure non are loose or corroded

the light is across one diode in the rectifier pack in the alternator, usually there are 9 of them, one of yours has failed, probably the failed diode is leaking current and draining the battery. In this instance the battery will be good (if drained) and the other 8 diodes will show a good charge.Get the current drain checked with everything switched off

yes it's most likely a alternator problem,usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem

I HAD SAME PROBLEM SOLVER OF MY MOMS 1996 CAMRY ABOUT HORN GOING OFF AND CAR WOULDN'T CRANK. BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED AND HEADLIGHTS REAL BRIGHT TOO. COULD HAVE BEEN A DOORLOCK MANUAL MALFUNCTION--BEEN OK FOR A WEEK NOW.
