Jaguar s type 03 gearbox fault warning light on dashboard, gear stuck in 4, reverse engages ok, what could it be?
sounds like it is in get you home because of gearbox failure if its the early box with metal sump check selector cable adjustment it critical as the J gate micro switches and the linear switch on the side of the gearbox have to be in sync with each other. on the other hand if it is the later gearbox with plastic sump, which i suspect it will be, check it has not lost some of its oil due to leaking sump, common problem! other wise check fault codes in transmission control module, any codes relating to incorrect gear ratio means internal falure most times
2005 Honda CRV RSVI 2.0 A/T
I have sent the vehicle to Honda dealer. they replaced diff and gearbox oils. the problem did not go away. the car stays in first and then gerks to second. the rest of the gears are fine after that. please advise. thank you.
did you scan it, see if the PCM throws,DTC errors? if yes, what are they, does the transmission fail hot or cold, or both? did the dealer, confirm the trans is bad,? and not a weak engine? did the tell you to do the full service on it, new fluid and filter.? how many miles on it, 50k, 300K? ever do the service on it at 50k? or let it slide.??????
if car is USA car, is it, it has OBD2 PCM and any scan tool works, , scan it. is it getting P07xx DTC codes>???
this is and electronic shifted trans. and as such can fail for 3 reason, 1: bad tranny (box) 2: TCM (PCM), or inputs to TCM wrong, That is why you must scan it, to see if the TCM seens errors shifting. one more questions (lots of parts to any A/T)
when the trans sticks if first, (not hitting a false neutral) that means the Brain failed to give the 2nd shift signal or the brain did but the trans failed to do it. That is what we ask our self. then find that out. What I do, is monitor the trans solenoid lines, to see if the TCM brain, actually commanded a shift to 2nd,. that be first after doing the FFF, flush-fill-filter.
one more, turn the key to on, the MIL lamps (CEL/SES) glows. does it, AND WHEN YOU DRIVE IT STAYS OUT? this car has electronic throttle controls and can go to limphome, if fails and car will be slow. This magic , when broken makes sure you can not go fast, (even to the point of killing the TRANS FULL SHIFT RANGE) all this is in the factory service manaul, buy one, or let honda fix car.
