You can adjust the trunk lid by loosening the bolts at the hinges. If that wont work then there is a micro switch incorporated within the trunk latch. You will need to replace the entire latch unit unfortunatly.

My boot wont close fully

  • Press down on your trunk, and have somebody release your trunk's release mechanism from inside your car simultaneously. These systems can become jammed but can sometimes be released if a gentle downward pressure is applied to your trunk while the mechanism is being activated. If this is the problem, apply some lubricant.
  • Clean the latch and the area where it connects to the chassis. If dirt or debris has become lodged here, it can stop the latch from connecting properly. It's a good idea to vacuum the area to ensure no small bits of gravel have become trapped and stopped the mechanism from securing properly.
  • Examine the latch and the area where it connects to the body of the car. Either of these might have become bent out of shape or damaged in some other way if the trunk has been shut with an obstruction in the way. If this is the case, contact your vehicle's manufacturer or a local garage to find a replacement if the elements cannot be repaired.
Check the latch mechanism, it may have accidentally already be in the closed or lock position. If it is, you will have to pry down on the latch tangs with a screw driver while pulling latch handle to the open position.
Latch could also be seized, in that case , use a thin oil liberally on latch mechanism, and work the mechanism open and shut closing and opening with screw driver and boot handle.

2010 Nissan sentra trunk won't close - like the latch isn't hitting hook.

It is common if you have loaded anything heavy into or out of the trunk, it is easy to catch on the latch and it bends quite easily. Try covering the catch or latch with a grease like white lithium or vaseline and shutting the trunk lid down lightly and see if you can see the imprint of where it is striking, then bend accordingly. Or you can climb into the trunk with a flashlight and shut it down and see if you can see which way it needs to be bent to line back up.

Trunk wont open unless someones pressing the button and someones pulling up on the trunk

maybe the locking mechanism which latches the trunk closed needs to be adjusted a little more loosly (move the latch so that it engages sooner as you close the trunk) - do this by loosening 2-3 bolts to move the latch.

The trunk opens but the latch wont lock when you close the trunk

Hi,
Open the trunk (that won't lock !!! ) and try to lock the hooked type latch with a screwdriver shaped tool. This will duplicate the latch locking mechanism in the trunk floor and give you a visual indication of the problem (MOST LIKELY THE LOCK ASSY).
Good Luck

I have a 2002 chevy cavelier, i used the button on the dash to open the trunk, now the trunk will not latch when i close it.

Try pushing the button under the dash back into its normal 'unactivated' position, and see if the trunk will latch shut. It could be a sticky latch mechanism in the trunk, which some silicone lubricant or WD40 might help to free up. Check also that the latch has not actually returned to the 'locked' position prior to trying to close the trunk. That would definitely stop you from closing the trunk properly! Try unlocking the trunk latching mechanism again.

2003 VW Jetta trunk does not open

most likely cause is latch cover plastic has broken and got lodged in the latch mechanism. now the fun part, fold down back seat , slide into trunk with a phillips screwdriver a flashlight and a large strait blade screwdriver, once in trunk remove trunk cover, then with strait blade unlatch the trunk. once lid is open remove latch and take out broken plastic to free up latch and reinstall then retest before closing trunk.
