You cant adjust fuel on the ford governor its fixed.you can adjust fuel on cummins governor.have your governor injection timing check .make sure air filter not stopped up or restricted.it will cause it to run rich.

1992 f150 4.9 liter runs rough and smokes black

Black smoke is due to a rich fuel mixture, Check first to make sure you have a clean air filter. If you have a MAF Sensor or an O2 sensor going or gone it will tell the computer the wrong information and the computer will adjust accordingly. You can always use a code reader to see what codes you have, A parts store will have one to read a code for you. I have seen more black smoke from a restricted air filter than anything.

Rebuilt engine (302) in truck, running very rich, then truck quit.we try changing ignition coil,we have spark just will not fire, even tried to turn of fuel pumps to clear fuel, still not firing

to run an engine needs 3 basic things fuel air and spark. you have spark so next step is to see if you are getting fuel to your cylinders i am guessing it is injected so you should check fuel pressure in your fuel rails. if you are gettign fuel then last thing would be air but is highly unlikely i would say no fuel

Fuel pump runs constantly.

Bad fuel pump. Replace and/or check auto cut off for pump. Please note fuel pumps (electric) for injection systems are almost always in the fuel tank.

My 2001 Ford F250 diesel is really shaky upon starting and doesn't want to stay running, it just has a cloud of smoke coming out of it. Once I finally get it going and get it up to speed, it is fine...

Sounds like the injector pump is putting out too much fuel, i.e a overly rich condition. Could also be leaking causing it to be flooding while it is sitting.

Fuel guage fluctuates truck seems to lack fuel and sputters

you may have a bad fuel pump or a bad injection pump, here are picture of the two, as far as the gauge you may have a bad fuel sending unit, this is in the tank and work like a toilet float and sends a signal to the gauge, the injection pump and fuel pump are located on top of motor you would need to have the preasure checked on both before just replace them hope this is helpful.31a2121.jpg22edc2f.jpg

My 351 is running rich

use the air and gas flow adjustments on the side of the carburator to adjust the rich/lean flow of gas. there is a srew on each side of the carb to adjust one is for air the other for fuel. the one on the driversside is for the fuel and the one on the passenger side is for air. you have to turn them slowly til you get the desired results
