Hi, I have had a problem which no one seem to be able to fix, it's a few things but all to do with the dash board, 1) you can drive along suddenly dash board beeps no warning lights all speedos go to 0 then the dash board either goes straight back to normal but sometimes completely dies for a few minutes leaving me with no indicators but the car still runs normally apart from this!! 2) sometimes u get in the car to start it, no dash board lights at all, you turn the Kay the cars starts then dies straight away, you have to leave the key in the ignition to wait for the dash lights to come on befor you can drive it, which has taken anything between a minute to 10,mins, I brought the car nearly 2 months ago it has been in and out the local garage and to audi them selves it has has a brand new dash been re programmed 3 times! Please can someone help me

Sounds like you have a grounding issue possibly a main grounding location. inconsistant grounding of the vehicles control module will cause erratic behaviours. check under the hood for ground locations containing multiple grounds at 1 bolt location.if different "experts" have attempted repair and failed chances are they are all looking in the wrong place.dash{interior of vehicle}..actual cause.{egine compartment or under side of vehicle..ie...ground locations.}good luck and safe motoring:>

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya!

Sounds like you have an alternator problem. The alternator may have gone bad due to non use. Some parts inside may have rusted out and got damaged. Better bring your car to your local mechanic and have the alternator checked.

Have a wonderful day.

You have a bad camshaft sensor. It's located at the back of the driver side valve cover. Takes 20 minutes to replace. I had exact problem and this solved it.

My 06 opel astra 1.6 petrol won't lock on fob. The button on the dash won't work. I have checked all fuses and the sensor for central locking has been changed and this worked only a few days.

seems like you have an intermittent central locking control unit ask some electronic chap to resolder the board for you as they do tend to have dry solder joints or suffer water damage.

Intermittent Digital Dash

check the dash is sitting right, push on the dash. if this fixes it then you have a bad connection to the board pins on the back. if not there is a board in the dash that has failed usually down to a capacitor going, this age being a 91 model it dont cost a;lot for the capacitor/s to be changed but you will need some sodering skills to replace it/them.

I suggest that you immediately go to an AutoZone and get a free diagnostic scan. That is the only methodology that will pinpoint your problem.

Get the codes and I'll instruct you on how to fix the problem.

It is missing when i first start it and check

Hi:
It seems that your intermittent problem could be a cheap fix,and you can try a few things that might fix or eliminate the problem. Since the code pointed to the #1 cylinder misfire, You could change out your spark plugs and spark plug wires as a possible cause. If it doesn't fix it, they were 5-6 years old, and a new set isn't a bad investment. If the problem persists, then you are looking at a ignition coil, coil pack, distributor cap/ rotor, depending on your particular engine. Often if you have an ignition module failing, it will affect all cylinders misfiring, often randomly , so once you change your plugs and wires, have someone clear the check engine light, so if it comes back on ,you can check to see what the new code problem is...I hope you get a cheap fix!
