If you have a hole in your oil pan, you need a new engine.
I'm betting you had a clank first, the hole was made by a broken connecting rod. You need an engine, or another car, that may cost less....
Hey joza700,
if the car started making a knocking or ticking sound before you realized that their was a hole in your oil pan then, most likely you need a new engine or at lease a a tear down to fix the components that were damaged.
If the engine wasnt making any noise and you shut it off in time when you notice that the car didnt have oil in it, then you should be alright.
At the bare minimum your looking at a new oil pan, on the expensive end your looking at a new motor!! It all depends on how long the car ran without oil.

thank you. The oil came out within one hour...after that, it would barely start and then stopped.
there is clanking when it does start. now with oil ...drive to new parking spot and it stalls....
I was tol dto replace or rebuild engine, but someone else told me to take a belt? off and check to see if the clanking stops...if it does, what does this mean? I know it would then not be the engine.
