SOURCE: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire Fuel pump not working

check and see if you have an emergency shut off in the trunk. it will be on either side of the finder wall. it is there in case you get in a accident. the button pops up. make sure the button is in all the way. that shut off might be your problem.

If you replaced the fuel pump then there is a possibility that during the job then some debris from the tank and/or filter got loose somewhere into the fuel system and is in your lines. It could even be a very tiny speck of gasket material, old or new.

Why would you replace the fuel pump and filter for a compression problem. You either have a bad cylinder head, or a bad motor. Those are the only 2 things that will give you low compression. If you are talking about the engine revving up while driving down the road, you have a transmission problem.

1995 miata 1.80l base model. 179,000 miles. starts consistently and runs well. but in the first minute or so the engine will cut out. restart and cut out again. then all is well.

Hi James This could be an easy diagnosis or a real head ache.

If you have had this vehicle for some time with no issues and this fault has just occurred as you say in the last 100 miles. I would start with the basics.
What has occurred prior to this have you refueled, have you hit any pot holes or any scrapes to the underside of your vehicle? Does this fault occur every time you start the vehicle morning lunchtime evening or just when its damp outside?
I would First start with checking fuel quality, low pressure side only I.e feed up from tank. Be careful your dealing with a highly inflammable fuel that will be under pressure. safety precautions need to be taken. An engine fuel feed hose needs to be removed and placed into a clear jar watch closely as the jar fills and make sure a second person turns the ignition off as soon as the jar is 1/3 full do this at the worse time when engine is likely to play up. If it is contaminated (normally water) It will separate after a short period. If there is contamination this would be the first to come through the fuel line hence difficulty when first starting. I would expect there to be a minor amount of water if it runs ok after. See what happens after next refill.
If it happens first thing in morning and possibly at night does it get damp outside in your area. If it does and this is when fault occurs it may be electrical check all the high tension circuit. If neither of these ideas work get it into a Garage. My advice would be to take it to a garage if you are not confident with working with fuel under pressure. Good luck

If a vehicle shuts off while driving down the road. then restarts after about 10 minutes, its a bad crank sensor or the wiring to the sensor. A check engine light may not turn on. If the light is on. You can take it to any auto parts store to have the code read by a scanner for free. Auto-zone, Advanced ETC. Its worth a try! But first check the fuel pump relay, It may be getting hot and shutting down pump. Try swapping a relay of the same type, if it is ok, thats the problem. Hope this helps!

Many cars have the cooling fan on a thermostat or time delay, to allow it to run for a short period of time after the engine turns off, to cool the engine off. You may have just never noticed it before. So I wouldn't worry about that.
Your real problem is the blowing fuses, apparently you have a short somewhere in your wiring. Putting in bigger and bigger fuses is a great way to set fire to your wiring harness. It's possible that the wire is pinched or chafed somewhere, and perhaps when you hit a bump just right, it touches and shorts.
You may have to take this to the Chevy dealer or a GOOD independent shop to have them chase it down. Unless someone out there knows exactly what this is, it could be a tough one to find.

2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 Transmission problem

This started happening on my 05, 3.7L at around 45K miles. Usually once every two months, then I would shut off and back on and everything would be fine... Happened last week and I took to a private mechanic... Private mechanic said TCM needed to be flashed, and maybe replaced... Dealer said it would need to be replaced (of course)...I just got back from Dealer and it was covered under Powertrain warranty (only to 70K), but still cost $500 to replace the circuit board under the shifter... I dont think it shouldve cost that much, but I followed their advice so it hopefully wont happen again... Third jeep, each successsive one (each newer than the last) has more and more problems... Its sad that this will be my last jeep product...
