Dash board says door is open in my 2002 honda accord but it's not actually open

While i'm driving or hitting any bumps my dash board will light up and say my passenger side door is open. I've tested it to actually see if it's open by locking in and having someone try to open. They can never open it because it's locked. Wouldnt they be able to open it if it's actually open?!

Have you checked the door switch to see if it makes: open/close contact??;maybe try pushing the switch all the way in by hand, with door open, to see if light goes off/on and if it does, then switch is not working properly and not being pushed all the way in when door closes.

Testimonial: "No I have not tried that but I will try that. Thank you! Now by any chance if that is the case where its not making contact, do you think i will have toreplace the entire door?"

Nicole: You don't have to replace the door, opening&closing activates the switch on the door post. Try opening&closing the other doors and you'll see that each door ,including trunk, has a switch to let you know something is open. Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!

SOURCE: 2004 Honda Accord Euro. Central

I am a mechanic and had the same problem with a 2005 Acord that I purchased couple of months ago. Contact through the trade provided little help. The problem arose during a week that we in Adelaide, South Australia had a record o 40+ degrees centigrade heat. I noticed the drop knob slightly moving when the immobiliser was activated, but the drivers door failed to lock. Key locking would lock all doors however.
The cost of a door actuator from a Honda dealer was $185.00 (Aus), about $250 (US). The spare parts guy told me they had them in stock and sold a number of them. As a result I decided to find out whether the actuator was in fact faulty. I susequently removed the door lock and actuator assembly from the door. (A fiddly type job). The actuator assembly is in a plastic sealed assembly. By using a lot of patience and a box cutter I was able to cut around the assembly and then carefully lever the plastic housing apart. This revealled the small electric motor (similar to a slot car motor) that drove a worm and wheel assembly and a system of cams that actuated the door lock system. I found on dismantling the electric motor that the armature was coated with grease from the wormwheel /cam assembly that is mounted above the motor when installed in the vehicle. I cleaned the armature and brushes using superfine wet and dry carborundum paper, undercut and cleaned out the two armature segments of all remaining grease with a solvent. The motor was then tested with 12 volts and found to be ok. I then reinstalled the motor and glued the housing back together. It now works fine. I believe the housing was either initially overfilled with lubricant or that the high ambient temperature caused the grease to melt and flow into the elecric motor contaminating the motor. (There is no seal between the gearbox and the electric motor). The job took a few hours from start to finish but I saved the cost of purchasing the part and didn't let it beat me.

SOURCE: Drivers Door Lock Problem

You will probably need to replace the power door lock actuator.

Here's a link to one similar to yours.

You can probably get a used one from a salvage yard.

My 1995 honda accord, dash light stop working, tail lights and brake lights all at the same time. what is the problem and how hard is it to replace the part.

I'm having the same problem on my 1995 Honda Accord.  I hit a bump hard last night, and my dash lights, tail-lights, license-plate lights, and the bell which 'bing's when the door is open and the headlights are on all stopped working.  The fuse for "Small lights" under the hood was blown.  Replaced it, turned on headlights, and it blew again instantly.
I'm guessing that I have a wire crossed (possibly inside the bulb itself) in the dash somewhere;  I checked the taillights and license-plate liights already.

Good luck!  I'll let you know how my fix goes.

I have 1991 honda accord and the door senors show

Wow, that's a tough one. I had a 1979 Honda Accord that had a door sensor image that lit whenever a door or hatch was open. I never had a problem with it, however.

Actually, if it was a fuse, then the lights wouldn't light up at all on the dash.

1991 was a good year for Honda.

I have a 04 Toyota Tacoma. I have short in the dimmer switch.

It cold just be a fuse that is loose in the fuse box causing the dash lights to come on and off. Or potentially a loose wire from the fuse box the dash lights.

Cut out factory radio...could i had shortened something or blown?

Actually, I still have the factory-installed radio in my 1999 Honda Accord, and it started cutting out randomly about three months ago. It's some kind of power issue, i.e., when I speed up, it's ok, but when I brake it cuts out. However, once it cuts out, if I hit the power window switch the radio will come back on.
