I have a fuel problem that is related to the ECU. I have found a used replacement ECU from the same model (a manual 2.2L 5FSE engine) and wondering can I just replace the old one or would it need to reprogrammed by Toyota. Toyota are not being helpful.. thanks!
If it is just the fuel problem with the ecu, replace the chip in side the ecu from the new one you got as then you dont need to re program it then. the fuel chip and control is inside the ecu. you used to be able to get the chips for them and program the codes onto them. should be clip in type chips. if its soldered type as there are 2 types of ecu boards with same part number. you will need to un solder the chip.

Yes, remove the rear seat cusion and then lift up the padding. Take the screws out of the cover and them you can access the top of the fuel tank and remove the pump and fuel level sending unit.
Very easy!

The ECM is under warranty for 80,000 miles or 8 years. My 2005 just had that issue and I had 76,000 miles on it. Toyota paid for teh towing, parts, and labor.
