Brake Problems I have a 1995 Chevy C1500. I have recently replaced the master cylinder and the brake booster. I have also bled the brakes. I only have about 60% brakes and I have to pump them to get that. After being pumped several times the brake pedal sticks on the floor. Any ideas?

The only thing left unless you have a leak is the proportioning valve A soft pedal can also be caused by badly adjusted rear brakes but you shouldn't experience a pedal fade right to the floor with bad adjustment.

SOURCE: 89 c1500, full pedal on brakes until started then

adjust your rear shoes up so that the rear drums just turn, with them ajusted to a low setting the brake pedal will be low .
also when you start your engine it is noral for the pedal to drop because of the boster ! [ but not to the floor ]

SOURCE: New master cylinder and booster. Brakes stop good

Well if you have bled it correctly starting at the farthest out(PS Side Rear) and working to the closest(DR Side Front) and you make sure to close the bleeder valve before letting up and repumping the peddel, then I would say that the seals in your new master cylinder may be bad. When you bled the second or third time if there was no air then I would say you have a bad master cylinder. If there was air then you have another problem.Well hope this helps and good luck.

SOURCE: Brake pedal goes nearly to

I would go with not bled correctly

The booster should hold up with a hard pedal until
you start the engine, then vacuum causes it to move
down when pressing on the brake

I replaced the brake system on my 2001 chevy suburban, and the master cylinder will not pump any fluid.

it seems like the master cylinder is not pumping any fluid. Here are some possible reasons why this could be happening:

Air in the brake lines: If there is air in the brake lines, it can prevent the master cylinder from pumping fluid. You may need to bleed the brake lines to remove the air. Here is a video that demonstrates how to bleed brakes on a Chevy Suburban.

Master cylinder failure: If the master cylinder is faulty, it may not be able to pump fluid. In this case, you may need to replace the master cylinder. Here is a video that shows how to replace the master cylinder on a Chevy Suburban.

Brake booster failure: If the brake booster is faulty, it can cause the master cylinder to not pump fluid. In this case, you may need to replace the brake booster. Here are brake booster tests: How to Test a Brake Booster: 4 Simple Diagnostic Tests (wikihow.com)

When i press the brake pedal on my 2003 chevy tahoe there is a loud whooshing sound, what is causeing this?

You have a bad vacuum booster. The diaphragm in the booster is ruptured resulting in vacuum loss and no power assist to the brakes. Do not drive in this condition, loss of control (stopping) hazard exist.. Replace Power Brake Booster. Since replacement of the booster requires removal of the master cylinder, replace the master cylinder as well, It is old (2003) and time for replacement

1992 chevy siverdado 1500 Has new master cylinder, booster, brake calipers bled all lines back to front.drove a round the block The brake are soft with a hissing noise go to the floor some times.

Had the exact same issue with an 04 Cadillac srx. Replaced the booster twice...finally put my old "defective" master cylinder back on and brakes worked fine. Turned out the new master cylinder was bad...even though the symptoms point to the booster. Do check the vacuum hose going to the booster first though. Have seen those go bad and cause weird problems and it's the easiest thing to check first.

Do you have to remove brake lines when you change the brake booster

Check rear of Master Cylinder--If wet likely Master Cylinder Leaking and Booster Damaged. They Should be replaced as a mated pair. (for warranty) and brake lines removed and system bled.

2001 Silverado 2500 HD Why Rear brakes don't work after I installed new hydro-boost power booster, master cylinder, calipers, and pads. I bled master cylinder before installing, and brakes beginn

Hello Patricia,

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

When truck is off, pedal is hard. after starting, pedal goes to floor. replaced master cylinder, bled brakes. changed front and rear pads.

I would inspect the brake booster for vacuum leak. When the booster is not working you get a hard pedal, yet when you start the vehicle the pedal will hit the floor because of the damaged diaphram inside the brake booster.

Bleeding abs 1993 chevrolet p/u, brakes are not solid, I have bled all cylinders starting with master cylinder, left rear to front disc. The pedal is soft and brake light stays on? I have replaced new brake...

Did you bench bleed the MC before installing it? If not, that's the problem. MUST be bench bled or you'll always have air. If brakes lights are on, the brake switch is out of adjustment OR (since you replaced the MC), the push rod is out of adjustment

Replaced master cylinder bled as per specs but have dead pedal intermitantly. does this have to do with the abs system needing bled, if so how is that done.

Try changing the brake booster. The abs has nothin to do with the brake pedel. All the abs does is electronically adjust pressure applied to each wheel to keep the wheels from lockin up and sliding. You've either got a bad master cylinder or your brake booster is bad
