Replace oxygen sensors

I replaced oxygen sensor near the catalytic converter (upstream) on 98 Plymough Grand Voyager 3.0 V6. I'm getting the same code after resetting computer. How many total sensors upstream & downstream?

These engines have 1 upstream o2 sensor and 1 downstream o2 sensor..the 1 in the rear exhaust manifold is the upstream and the 1 after the converter is the downstream..make sure you replaced the right one

Knowing that the 2006 Trailblazer has 2 oxygen sensors and I have changed the one before the catalyst, how important is it to change the second one, the one after the catalyst? What function?

In a vehicle's exhaust system, oxygen sensors play a crucial role in monitoring and adjusting the air-fuel mixture to ensure optimal engine performance and minimize emissions. The 2006 Trailblazer, like many modern vehicles, typically has two oxygen sensors: one located before the catalytic converter (referred to as the upstream sensor) and one after the catalytic converter (referred to as the downstream sensor).
The upstream oxygen sensor monitors the oxygen content in the exhaust gases before they enter the catalytic converter. This information is used by the engine control unit (ECU) to adjust the fuel injection and air intake to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio for efficient combustion. Failure to replace a faulty upstream oxygen sensor can lead to decreased fuel efficiency, increased emissions, and potential engine performance issues.
The downstream oxygen sensor, located after the catalytic converter, serves a different purpose. Its primary function is to monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter by measuring the oxygen levels in the exhaust gases after they have passed through the converter. The ECU uses this information to ensure that the catalytic converter is effectively reducing harmful emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
While a malfunctioning downstream oxygen sensor may not immediately affect engine performance or fuel efficiency, it is still important to replace it if faulty. A failing downstream sensor can lead to increased emissions and may cause the vehicle to fail emissions tests. Additionally, it can result in damage to the catalytic converter over time, leading to costly repairs.
In summary, while the upstream oxygen sensor is more critical for immediate engine performance and efficiency, the downstream sensor plays a crucial role in monitoring and maintaining the effectiveness of the catalytic converter and ensuring compliance with emissions regulations. Therefore, it is important to replace both oxygen sensors as recommended to ensure proper vehicle operation and minimize environmental impact.

How many o2 sensors on the 05 grand jeep Laredo 3.7 are upstream and downstream sensors the same?

The 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L typically has two oxygen (O2) sensors. One is located upstream (before the catalytic converter), often referred to as the pre-cat or upstream sensor, and the other is located downstream (after the catalytic converter), known as the post-cat or downstream sensor. In many cases, the upstream and downstream sensors are not the same and serve different purposes in monitoring and optimizing the air-fuel mixture and emissions.

Where is the oxygen sensor on a 1999 s10 with a v6 engine

There are 3 O2 sensors on the chevy vortec V6. 1 upstream left bank, 1 upstream right bank, 1 downstream.

Downstream sensor is located at outlet side catalytic converter. The two upstream sensors are in the left and right exhaust before they join. Look behind front wheels.

Where is the O2sensor bank 1 at with a code of P0420. AND do I need to replace both sensors upstream and down. Or just the one that is showing up on the obd scanner.

Bank one is front side of cat. It should also tell u if it's cat 1 or cat 2. Depending on make an modle an yr. Catalyst 1 bank 2 is left cat back sensor. Catalyst 2 bank 2 is right cat back sensor. U do not have to replace upstream also. My o2 sensor Catalyst 2 bank 2 went bad. Had engine code for burning rich bank 2. Replaced tha down stream sensor an fixed problem runs better an better gas. This was in 97 gmc suburban. Idk what vehicle ur askin about. An I'm not to familiar with much about cars jus trucks an suvs.

Where is the 02 Oxygen Sensor before the cadalic converter on a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Usually these are located on the exhaust manifold or just below the exhaust manifold and you should be able to see it in the engine bay. On V6 engines there will be one sensor on each of the 2 exhaust banks.
You will probably need to remove the engine cover to see the sensors on your exhaust.

If someone told you to replace these because you got a particular fault code I would be wary. A decent scan tool and basic diagnostics can show if the 02 sensor is working or not. Some faults often blamed on an 02 sensor are not due to faulty sensors.

What is an 02 sensor upstream 98 astro van

02 sensor is your oxygen sensor, 98 chevy astro carries 3 oxygen sensor. i belived your bad sensor is on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold but if not try the drivers side all the oxygen sensor for this van are the same. you need to go under the van to replace it, if is to hard to get it out turn your van for five minutes then turn it off and try again, be carefull not to burn your self. the one close to the catalytic converter is the downstream oxygen sensor ok, good luck!!!!!!

Code p0420 acura m'dx

1996-newer (OBD-II) vehicles use oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter to reduce emissions. There is one O2 (oxygen) sensor in front of the catalytic converter (called upstream), and one behind it (downstream). When the engine is warmed up and running normally the upstream oxygen sensor reading fluctuates and the downstream one is fairly steady. In the case where both readings are fairly steady, a P0420 check engine light code is set.
Possible Causes: Oxygen (O2) sensor not working correctly
Damaged or leaking exhuast (pipe, manifold, catalytic converter)
Damaged catalytic converter
Diagnostic Help:
To diagnose a P0420 trouble code we begin by checking for exhaust leaks under the vehicle. Then use an oscilliscope to check the waveforms of both upstream and downstream O2 sensors. The front reading should vary, the rear should be steady. Replace as necessary. Check the rear Heated O2 Sensor. Check the catalytic converter, replace if necessary. If necessary, check for wiring and component concerns. See our article "Automotive Circuit Testing 101", if you need more assistance with this. Remember to refer to an model-specific repair manual for proper instruction.

Need to replace the 02 sensor on my 1992 chevrolet corvette, I have the sensor but trying to figure out where it goes underneath the car??

there should be more than one 02 sensor so make sure to replace the correct one, but anyways they screw into the exhaust pipe usually near where the pipe meets the exhaust manifold

Truck codes p1132 and p1152

Hi,

P1132 = Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Rich - Bank No. 1
P1152 = Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Rich - Bank No. 2

It sounds to me like the oxygen sensors (between the engine and catalytic converters) should be replaced. Good luck!
