Your knock sensor is located Under the hood, center, front engine area, below intake manifold, mounted on block.

A defective knock sensor may cause engine detonation or reduced spark advance and fuel economy. When a knock sensor is removed and replaced, the sensor must be tightened to its specified torque. If the knock sensor is installed tighter than it should be, it may become too sensitive and provide an excessively high voltage signal, resulting in more spark ****** than required. When the knock sensor is installed looser than it should be, the knock sensor signal will be lower than normal, resulting in engine detonation.

To replace the knock sensor:

  • Disconnect the knock sensor wiring connector.
  • Then, unscrew the sensor.
  • Remove the knock sensor.
  • Reverse the procedures to install the part.

location of knock senor on 97 maxima se - 2054724.jpg I believe this car takes premium gas. If you are using regular it will knock so try premium and while you at it, add a can of injector cleaner to clean off the injectors.

For the location of the knock sensor go to;
http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507

Here is something to try. While the engine is idleling, tap on the sensor and see if the engine starts to shake because the ecu is sensing "knocking".

Tip. When removing any screw/bolt, if it has a choice between a using a screwdriver or wrench, use the wrench.

Hi.

The Chevy Trailblazer 5.3 and 4.2 engines have two knock sensors located at the lower sides of the engine block.

I can't find where the knock sensor location is on a 1997 nissan maxima

There are two knock sensors, one for each cylinder head and they are located in the cylinder heads underneath the lower intake manifold of the engine. When you replace then do so in pairs and also replace the short wiring harness to them from the main engine harness.

I failed the emisson's test. I have a 97 Nissan

P0136 indicates a bad O2 sensor. This reports poor emission performance back to the car's PCM (computer)
P0325 indicates a bad "Knock" sensor which would adversely effect drivability as far as performance is concerned. Only way to fix these 2 problems is replacement of the 2 components.

Knock / Cam Sensor

The Knock Sensor is Located under the Intake Manifold.. It can be seen vias a flash light from the Driverside Looking down into the open area below the intake manifold approx 8in. Inside. If you are going to Remove/Replace the Knock Sensor You will have to Remove the Intake Manifold. Whick is not as hard as it may look. You will also have to replace the Gasket on the intake it self.
