The rotor under the distributor may be bad, pulled the cap and turn the engine over look at the rotor and make sure its turning. If it doesn't turn the distributor gear maybe sheared, timing belt or timing chain may have come off.

SOURCE: Mazda Etude 160ie timing

I have a problem with the mazda etude 160ise, the crank shaft sensor was damages and replaced it ad now the car cant tart. Note that the timing was afected in that the two sealings were replaced. Could one please provide information as to how I can get in timing and get it going again.

Mazda etude 1995 model no spark. when i turn the ignition the engin whines but no spark. Can anyone please help me?
No engine told( size and cyl count) or true Mazda name of eng.
hood up does engine crank pulley spin or not?
whines is bad, grinds is good, GRRRRRR GRRRR
WIZZZZ up and whine. ever.
wizzup (screams is a better word) me deaf here.
if not crank spin, he starter solenoid is bad. or flywheel teeth stripped.
the actual engine crank shaft must spin or there will be no spark
nor fueling!
check fuses
spark dead engine spins ,fuses good is

bad spark ICM module,. or bad Ignition coil.
or distributor or a wreck cap bad or rotor or both. new spark wires here,not 28 year old wires HV,cap ,rotor or spark plugs here

Mazda Etude 1600ie starts and run but in about 15 min drive it cuts out. Then starts again after 10 to 20 min. We already changed the petrol pump, we changed the crankshaft sensor.
no year car told
no VIN told or country
no miles told.
scan the PCM see if DTC error are set!
try spark plugs and filters? (a tune up)?

Mazda etude 1.8 no spark
If you do not have any spark ( petrol engine ) check for distributor cap, rotor arm, ignition module inside the electronic distributor, or any loose wiring connected on distributor or ignition coil or any wire.Also check and the HT Leads.

On hot days the etude cuts out whilst driving, after +- 20 minutes it starts again and drives as if nothing is wrong.
I have seen corrosion problems inside the coil end of coil wires on slightly older Mazdas. not sure if yours has a distributor or not, but if it does, this type of corrosion could be overheating the coil. would suggest if applicable, replacing both the coil, and the spark plug wires.

My mazda etude is having water in one of the spark plugs
Remove that plug and turn engine over. Does water shoot out of the spark plug hole? Head gasket leak, cylinder-to-coolant channel side. Do you see any water vapor or actual water out of your exhaust when you first start it?
