    it is normal for some cars specially big engines like the v8. to idle high for a few seconds...as they have to warm up the engine.......



    but is this like very high?

I would start with looking for a vac leak and a dirty throttle body, and check the fuel pressure.
The idle air control valve could be faulty, it is how the computer controls idle speed.

you could have a bad alternator and when your motor turns at a lower rpm it isnt producing enough voltage to run properly good luck

Why does rpm drop and go back up and want to stall on my 2001 grand am se while idling or stopped at a light?


I had the same problem and the cause was Vacuum problem and a map sensor. check those bad boys. Good luck

Fuel pressure


With the 3.1 engine: Ignition on 52-59 psi, at idle 42-56 psi. With the 3.8 engine: Ignition on 48-54, at idle 38-51. Let me know if your's is supercharged the specs maybe different.
