My blower motor contiues to run even when the car is turned off. I unhooked the battery to get it to stop. What is causing this and how can it be fixed?

My blower moter continues to blow, even when the car is turned off. The A/C is also only blowing on high. Can someone please tell me what is causing this problem?

This problem is very common and i know the cause, it is the blower motor speed control module/resistor, it is shorted out.

The blower motor control module is shorted internaly. It will have to be replaced.

  • Anonymous May 16, 2009

The blower motor control module is under the hood on top of the HVAC box. Yes if you have basic tools and knoledge you can do it yourself quite easily. Open the hood, unhook the negative battery cable. Remove the engine cover if it has one. At the back of the engine on the fire wall there is a relay/fuse block. Remove the nuts from the sides of it. Then under it there is a module with two connectors, that is it. Replace that and your fan will work right. Good Luck

do not buy this part. it may or may not be right and the part is very expensive. it could also be the relay. it could also be the blower motor. it could also be the electronic control module. There is no right answer without proper diagnostics.

Why will my heater blower fan stay running even with the keys out of the ignition?

Main suspect is the blower motor relay. What year, make and model of truck will tell you where the relay module is. I have an 86 s10 that does this also. I replaced the 30 year old relay module with a new one, and the new one does it once in a while also. Yes, I swapped the new one for free within the 30 day warranty, and guess what? The other other new one does it too. On my s10, the relay is on the firewall about 6 inches from the blower motor. When the thing won't quit, I pop the hood and tap on the relay to make it stop. will-heater-blower-fan-stay-running-even-xrysbksmd4oe40lchygmaasz-4-0.jpg

My heating and AC blower motor continues to run even after car is turned off and key is removed, on my 2003 outlander.

Right disconnect the battery and see if stops as i have had this problem before and the cause is a solar panel in the sun roof will cause this motor to run to keep the interior temperature down on a hot day .This had me well baffled last week with a AUDI A8 i spent a short while thinking what the noise was then when i found the noise was the blower motor i started to try to think of all the causes i think off then i looked for the fuse board when i thought disconnect the battery first --- and the noise still continued and it was hot over 30? C so i took my overhauls off and threw them over the roof getting ready to look for a second battery somewhere and the noise stopped ,removed the overhauls and it started again so look at the sun roof and it had a solar panel in the glass .BOY DID I FEEL LIKE A IDIOT
