SOURCE: fuel filter 2003 Montero Sport

drivers side, underneath the car. look at the line coming from the gas tank, and where the line gets bigger and has a metal cylinder in it, that is your fuel filter. a couple of clamps and you can change that thing out in a matter of minutes, and depending on your medel you may have to remove a metal plate to get to it.

SOURCE: Can I cut a hole thru the trunk to access fuel pump?

If you can do it without damaging anything. it is all up to you. I would make sure to seal it back tight after cutting the hole. Don't use anything bit a chisel. I have never seen it done but it's your car.

SOURCE: Where is the fuel pump

under the back seat. remove the back seat. and then after you remove the electric connections and Fuel hose, making sure fuel pump fuse is removed and fuel pressure has been released by valve or by opening gas tank on outside of car, remove fuse or disconnect battery, and then .., remove ring by (beating it) to turn counter clockwise and remove metal seal ring. .. then pull up to disconnect and slide out carefully to not break the pump, housing, or the float or hoses. there is a rubber sealing gasket you have to break loose as you pull up, once you feel the tension release QUIT PULLING or you will break something. its sensitive so BE CAREFUL. Remove, replace pump and/or filter, and installation is reverse of removal.

Montero fuel filter
It's contained in the fuel tank with the fuel pump. You access it through panels in the floor of the vehicle.

2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport (won't not 'want') start. Replaced the starter and fuel pump. Filter still not getting gas to the cylinders

If you already replaced fuel pump and filter and still no fuel pressure at injectors rail, your problem is more than likely electrical. Check for good power and ground at fuel pump connector. If no power at fuel pump connector, check your fuel pump fuse, relay and wiring for opens(broken) feed wire.

What is the fuel pressure suppose to be on a 1990 mitsubshi montero sport

Difficult question to answer directly. There's a pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail that's set to around 35 psi. The fuel pump can deliver more than this of course, but the regulator is there to return excess pressure to the tank. Perhaps your problem is the fuel pump or the MPI relay which is usually behind the center console.

Do i have to drop the tank to replace a fuel pump on a 2002 montero sport

WARNING In almost every case, replacing the Mitsubishi electric fuel pump requires removal of the fuel tank. Please refer to the fuel tank removal and installation procedure at the end of this section.
  1. Lift or move aside the carpet in the rear cargo area.
  2. Remove the oval cover plate from the access hole.
  3. Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector at the rear of the fuel tank.
  4. Start the engine, allowing it to run until it runs out of fuel. This relieves pressure within the fuel system.
  5. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6. Remove the fuel filler cap.
  7. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank into suitable container(s), each with an airtight lid.
  8. Carefully, and using two wrenches on the fittings, disconnect the high pressure fuel line and the main fuel line from the pump. Remove the high pressure fuel hose at the body-side main pipe connection, unfasten the pump-side connection. Wrap each joint in a rag before loosening; some pressure may remain within the system.
  9. Remove the fuel pump retaining nuts and carefully remove the pump from the tank.
The fuel pump may still contain liquid fuel. Drain it into a suitable container with an airtight lid before performing any tests or inspections.
To install:
  1. Carefully install the pump into the tank and install the 6 retaining nuts onto the studs. Tighten the nuts evenly and in a crisscross pattern to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  2. Reinstall the high pressure and supply line to the pump.
WARNING Take great care when connecting the threaded high pressure lines. Start the threads by hand, then, while holding the hose side to keep it from turning, tighten the flare nut to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
  1. Connect the pump wiring harness.
  2. Connect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition key to ON but do not start the engine. You should hear the pump running. Allow it to run for about 10 seconds to build line pressure, then start the engine.
  3. After the engine has run smoothly for a minute or two, shut the ignition off and check the work area for any trace of leakage. Attend to any fuel leaks immediately, remembering that the system has repressurized and must be handled safely.
  4. Reinstall the cover on the access hole and replace the carpet in the cargo area.

2001 Montero Sport does not have power when climbing mountain pas

Considering what has been done, the problem sounds like a fuel issue. Do a fuel pressure test, it should be 47-50 psi with vacuum line pulled off fuel pressure regulator. If low replace filter and try again. If still low replace pump. Please make sure to rate me when done. Thanks
