This symptom usually indicates fuel starvation. You mentioned replacing the fuel filter and injectors, was this to handle this probelm?

No start, will crank but won't turn over. Changed distributor cap & rotor also changed spark plug wires. Still no luck?

Well, I would replace the air filter, make sure the air hose from the air filter to the intake is not kinked or blocked and check for vacuum leaks. If these are all fine, I would check the fuel pressure as it is possible the pump is weak and not supplying enough fuel.

Is the check engine light on?

  • Anonymous May 20, 2009

Try taking it to a parts store that offers free code retrieval and see if anything comes up. They should give you a print out with the code number on it (P0xxx). Let me know what comes of that.

About the only things that will cause a localized random misfire are a bad spark plug, bad plug wire or a dirty/malfunctioning injector. Make sure your plug is tight and all connections are tight. If all is good, you may have gotten a bad injector.

Could it be the air intake hose. I have a 1991 Volkswagen Jetta with the same problem. I brought it to a mechanic and he told me that, I would need my hoses replaced to smooth out the idle and not stumble at the press of the gas.

Bad spark plugs symptoms

An ignition misfire feels like the car is stumbling. Get it up to about 55mph and ease into acceleration, if it stumbles you might want to get a tune-up. If it stumbles at idle and gets better with acceleration, you might be dealing with a fuel delivery misfire(clogged fuel injector or fuel filter)

1994 toyota corolla 1.8 automatic runs good on idle but stumbles when accelerating

The Toyota of your year is equipt with a map sensor,it is located on the firewall with a vacuum line leading directly to the intake manifold, This sensor measure engine load and adjust fuel accordingly. This is definetly the problem, make sure the vacuum hose did not come out,Look at the underhood emission sticker for it,it Toyota has a different name for it it might be called boost sensor or pressure sensor.
